Hello.

As a banker, I can assure you that the risk is not in giving your account number and bank details (RIB), but who works at your bank.

Indeed, it will be IMPOSSIBLE for someone to empty your account with just your RIB number (which is useless except to indicate a destination for the funds).

On the other hand, there is a risk if the person who works at your branch is not very serious and processes transfer orders received by mail / fax / email ... without prior verification.

I hope I have answered your question.

Have a good day.

I was called for a subscription to France Telecom Orange internet and I gave my checkbook number, and since then, no internet or contract with them. Is it possible for someone to use my bank account details for a withdrawal or purchase online? Thank you for responding. And the bank cannot oppose any potential suspicious withdrawal until there is an actual withdrawal.

BJ I had the same scammer who pretended to be my phone operator and I provided him with my bank details. My bank told me the same thing: as long as there are no withdrawals, they won't oppose these scammers. So I check my accounts every day.

If I understand correctly, with a bank account number or an RIB, an individual can see how much money is in a current account. I would like some clarification on this topic because in the case of my personal account, someone can see everything I have in my account and my expenses without having access to my statements. How is this possible? It's strange. Thank you for answering me.

As the banker said, a bank account statement is like an address; it's just the address of where your money is. No one can take your money or check your accounts with it. However, some people use the bank account statement to commit identity theft. When in doubt, NEVER send your bank account statement.
