Hello,
Here’s the project:
I’d like to digitize my VHS tapes onto my PC to burn them to DVD
Equipment:
- VCR (quite recent)
- Grabster 150 enclosure
- Magix (video editing software)
- Peritel cable -> S-Video
- Peritel -> Composite
- Audio -> RCA
The problem:
The sound is good (wired directly to the red and white RCA jacks on the VCR).
The problem is the video which only works with S-Video displaying in B&W or with altered colors (green becomes blue, low red density, poor rendering).
I’m favoring the hardware issue path (for now) based on my Peritel connections.
Thanks!

indeed it says -> so it should be fine! if it's properly configured in secam L of course
try in composite rather than via the svhs input, I've always used my boxes that way
I can't say more -
To tell the truth, my software that comes with the grabber (Magix) offers PAL and NTSC, so I tested another software such as AVS Capture Wizard offering SECAM, and the problem remains the same.
-
I don’t think about the hardware so much as your acquisition is in PAL instead of SECAM (French standard).
-
Rapid intervention, HOBOURGEOIS, thank you!
I tested all possible connections to switch from PAL to SECAM via NTSC and nothing works... -
is the software really on SECAM ?? because it's the classic "joke" of non-French software not defaulting to SECAM.
I changed my capture box twice and you have to configure SECAM in the options, otherwise it’s black and white -
yes but if the casing does not handle secam whatever software is behind it is screwed!
I used the Pinnacle Instant CD box without issues and the ADSTech box with their software -
It is stated that my box handles all formats (PAL, SECAM, and NTSC)

I am currently connected with the composite; I only have black even after scrolling through all the PAL/SECAM formats...
Am I possessed by a demon? -
the curse is in you
LOL
I don’t know what else to say, I had 2 boxes; the first ADSTech which looks exactly like yours and well configured in Secam, worked properly until it failed on me
now I have the Pinnacle DVC 100 with the same software as the one provided with ADSTech (Ulead Video) and the same notes
But still entered in composite (3 Cinch), any report ?? -
Well I’ve crossed a threshold: I dismantled a SCART socket (complete) to try to recover the composite video signal like MacGyver. What’s making me think is that I can’t get any video signal (not even a mediocre one) with composite, only with S-Video.
-
yes but if you enter composites you have to modify in the software the input choice! didn't you forget?
-
Oh no no! If I realized such stupidity, I’d hang myself naked from a pole in the snow for a week!! I’m going to sit with my problem and have a soup and come back around 9 PM. Thanks for the help!
-
Okay, a second reason to tie you naked to your post (lol) is whether McGyver took the right SCART cable to connect it to the video RCA, the one on pin 19!?
-
Yeah!
19-17 and even 16-18
sorry about that huh.... for info the composite input of the grabster works (tested with another source...) -

well... on the TV, the magneto works correctly with the SCART to SCART cable but nothing with composite.
i’m starting to block... -
yep I have the composite signal!!!
pin 20 of the SCART and "shielding"!!!
I connect to the grabster and I try encoding
