How to install a hard drive on my Wi-Fi router

Hello,

I connected a USB hard drive with data to my Wi‑Fi router, I activated file sharing on the router but I don’t see it on the network!

If someone could explain the steps to access this USB drive connected to my Wi‑Fi router, that would be very kind.

    It would be necessary to check in the device documentation whether exFAT format is supported; it is not the most common. If needed, try NTFS and FAT32.

    Samba is file sharing; it allows managing files over the network, creating, deleting, modifying, from the Windows Explorer. The media server, UpnP DLNA, is something else; it allows streaming (read-only) images, music, and video. For example, a TV that has a DLNA client function will be able to read files on the server (those whose extensions and codecs it recognizes), or network-connected speakers for music.

    I formatted the drive in NTFS and I’ll try sharing it again.

    Hello,

    We should specify the brand and model of the device. After that, is this device that has the direct Internet connection? Since I see that you are not in France, so a box configuration plus the router behind it isn’t necessarily required.

    When you enter in the explorer the address \\192.168.1.1 or \\192.168.0.1 what happens? Do you get an error with a message?

      Hi, You didn’t write the address in the right place. It’s just to the left where you should write it. You can also right-click the Windows button and choose "Run."

    Is the USB indicator above the router on when there is a USB key? Have you tried both USB ports? Are there files on the key? What format is it in (fat32, ntfs, exfat, ...)? Is the key properly configured for Samba file sharing, not media sharing? Is there an app in the router interface to manage/explore the files? An app to format the key?

    The USB indicator light above the router is on when there is a key YES

    did you try both USB ports? Yes

    are there files on the USB drive? Yes

    what format is it in (fat32, ntfs, exfat, ...) exfat

    ? is the drive properly configured for Samba file sharing, not media? The problem may be there, on the disk there is only music!

    Thank you for your reply and your explanations, perhaps the router doesn’t accept my drive which is an SSD, the USB light comes on when it’s plugged in.

    Hi,

    I also think the type of formatting on your disk is not recognized by the router.

    could you try sharing a simple USB stick instead?

    And there you go, there you go, there you have it ....

    But alas, how tedious the line spacing is!!
