Hello
When I close a Word file and reopen it, it switches to read-only mode.
Even deleting the TEMP files doesn't work...
In the file properties, it is not checked as read-only...
Thank you for your help...

Hello
I know it might be a bit late, but I really struggled all weekend because I had the same issue... read-only, unable to change the document and having to save as, which multiplied the number of documents, so it was very tedious.
The problem comes from the preview pane in Windows Explorer. If you've switched to preview mode, which is very useful for seeing what's in the documents... in fact, when you open the documents in question, you end up in read-only mode... It was tricky to think about, it's sneaky indeed. So, if you exit preview mode, you can modify the documents you have opened and delete them without any problem.

If only for those who might have the problem in 6 months... I often come across things that are 3 years old and that help me :)
Thank you for your reply... Moreover, I haven't solved this problem, and I'm going back to that long document.
If I understand correctly, the "viewing pane" is in Windows Explorer, the "thumbnail" preview???
I have the same issue except that all my drives are read-only and I can't change that.
I go to the drive properties/security/ and I allow all actions for all groups or user names. The only group I can't authorize is "creator owner."
I have Vista.
Also, all the folders are read-only. No matter how many times I uncheck the root folder, it doesn't work.
I've tried to find the method to remove the navigation pane but I can't manage it.
Thank you.
