Hello, I have a little issue with Word. The version isn't very recent, I think it's 2000 or 2003. I need to write something like an article for a newspaper, so with three columns. I’m writing in justified text but the problem is when I write a short word followed by a long word, there’s a big gap/blank between the two. I don’t know how to fix it; according to the teacher there is a solution, but he hasn't given it to us ^o^
I’m looking forward to your answers =D
thank you thank you!!!

  • 1°) Go to Tools/Language/Hyphenation/ and check "Automatic Hyphenation".
  • 2°) If there are still words that you want to hyphenate, insert a hyphen.
  • 3°) If you want to refine the work, select a line with a large space, go to Format/Font/Character Spacing/Spacing/Condensed/By/0.1 pt; if nothing seems to happen, use the down arrow to try 0.2 then, if needed, 0.3; this is called negative kerning, and it imperceptibly brings the letters that form the words closer together; this way, you can manage to raise the end of a word (like a short word) that was at the beginning of the next line. I advise against condensing too much: the result is not pleasant. However, conversely, you can choose Spacing/Expanded and widen the characters with positive kerning. This third manipulation works through successive attempts and requires patience and attention. But the method is elegant and, executed following the first two manipulations, yields a flawless result.

Good job.
