changer la langue de Word 2007 Solved

Question

Hello,

I would like to know how I can change the language of my Word 2007 document... it automatically switches to English, some words are translated automatically and since I have about fifty pages to type (argh!)...
I am not yet used to Word 2007, I have looked through all the tabs but I can't seem to change this setting, can you please help me?!!

To avoid these little hassles, you select the text, in the "Review" tab, you click on the "Set Language" button, a window appears, you select "French (France)" from the list, press the button at the bottom left "Default...", "Yes", "OK" and you're good to go!

It's simple, at the bottom of the Word document, there is page X, words, and next to it a book with a pen. You click on it. A window opens with language/spelling/search/copy/paste, you click on language. Another window opens with English/French/set the language. You click on set the language. English and French must be checked. You click on French to highlight it and at the bottom you click on default. It's set.

I have exactly the same problems as you!!! Besides, it happened to me during class... and I did the same as you, nothing works, I almost went crazy in the middle of the lecture hall, none of the steps that gringoire13 told you work!!

I have exactly the same problem. It's extremely annoying. My job requires me to use Word all the time and right now, it's hell. For such an expensive software, it's a real scandal.

I want to point out that this happened right after my first use of Office Online.

Hello, I have a similar issue to yours. I actually scanned documents and the language automatically set itself to Hebrew, so it's impossible to do anything since it works from the right and I can't make any modifications. I then wanted to change the language and set French as the default, and to my surprise, the text doesn't change to French but to Arabic!!! I don't understand anything and I can't change the language either.
When I open another document, it's in French; it's just the document I scanned that appears in Hebrew and then in Arabic!!

In fact, I have no issue with the other Word documents; they remain in French. It's only the one I scanned that turned into Hebrew, and when I tried to convert it to French, it switched to Arabic.

Yes, but as long as we don't uncheck automatic detection, we'll have the problem. In the window, there are two possible options to check or uncheck: "Do not check spelling or grammar" and "Detect language automatically." As long as we don't bring up this window and remove the checks, the problem will persist. Sometimes, you have to double-click several times on the red checkmark of the book to bring up the window that shows "language." Everything is in the language window. Don't forget to click OK to apply the change.

I have a similar problem; my text switches to English, but only when I copy and paste (even though I’m copying from a page that is also in French... go figure...). However, my language settings are set to French by default.

I don’t know if it’s because of your copying and pasting or not. In any case, I still haven’t found the solution.

Also, could it be a problem with Microsoft? I’m not sure, but I tend to agree with Silver1007, considering how much it costs...

You press Ctrl+A to select all the text on your page
then in the Review tab (Verification section on the left) click on "Set Language", uncheck the two options
"Do not check spelling or grammar" and "Detect language automatically" then select "French" at the top and click on "Default", then "Yes" and finally "Ok"!

In fact, what is the most disturbing is that no matter how many times I've set French as the default language, whether it's by clicking at the bottom, in the formatting options, or in the settings, every time I open Microsoft Word again, the default language is reset to English (however, this only applies to the language checker, which is where it is the most bothersome).

This software is supposed to be super user-friendly, but little things like this make it lose some of its ease of use... Anyway, even though I know how to "manage" otherwise, it would be nice to have a way to prevent this from happening again.

Even once the entire document is "flagged" in French, English can reappear (those English speakers are strong):

This can occur when applying a STYLE such as "No Spacing" since you can assign a language to each style => to check/modify if necessary.

Reminder to change the language for the entire document:
- "CTRL + A" or "Select All" then
- tab "Review/language/set/French" or button "French" in the status bar.
! Remember to uncheck the automatic language detection.

Hello,
here is the real answer:
uninstall the English keyboard and keep only the French one
Control Panel (Win7)/Region and Language/Keyboards and Languages/Change Keyboards/
Default input language= French
Installed services= Canadian Multilingual or French Azerty

In case there are two keyboards for FR (one French and one English), keep only one keyboard: the French one.

Restart Word and in the status bar, you will now see French (France) or French (Canada)
If you click in the status bar (French France or Canada)
you will STILL see The selection is in:

French and English but French is the default, and you can easily click on Detect Language Automatically
This works in 2010-2013 and 2016
I hope this short reflection will help many.
