HP C4390 WiFi Printer Setup

Hello,

I purchased a HP C4390 wifi printer from FNAC and I would like to install it on my Sony Vaio VGN-FZ11M laptop running Windows Vista. For your information, I connect to the internet via an ethernet cable to a wall socket as I am in a student residence with shared ADSL.

I rigorously followed the user manual provided by HP for the installation and everything went smoothly; I was able to print without any problems at the end of the installation.

However, after turning off my computer and printer for the night, I am now unable to print.

I contacted FNAC's hotline (around thirty euros out of pocket) to conclude that I should reinstall Windows: what a convenient solution that certainly won't resolve the problem. The advisor had me do several things: reconfigure the network with the installation CD, disable the firewall and antivirus, but nothing worked.

When I print a HP network configuration page using the wifi button on the printer, the network status is "offline" and the IP address is 0.0.0.0.

(For your information, when everything was working, the network status was "ready" and there was a functional IP address).

When I click on start, then connections, the network "hpsetup" does appear; when I connect to it, the message "waiting for user connections" is displayed next to the hpsetup network logo.

Therefore, I am unable to access the printer's settings page via its IP address because there isn't one. I tried, when printing was functional, to go to the printer's IP address via Internet Explorer and switch the "ad hoc" network to "infrastructure" as advised by HP, but clicking "Apply" did nothing except disconnect my printer (printing impossible) and I cannot return to the printer's IP address.

What should I do to ensure my printer is recognized even after the computer and printer are turned off?

I would like to be able to print without using a USB cable (hence the purchase of a WIFI printer) and without having to reinstall the entire software before each print!

I thank the kind soul who can help me :)

Best regards,

Romain.
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

I have no idea... I have exactly the same problem and I've been dealing with it for just a month.
The best solution is to return their device and tell them it's garbage!!
There you go... for those who will come back to this blog and see the message, they'll be warned about HP's lousy product. And especially don’t tell me they are the best in customer relations... as soon as they don’t have the solution, they leave you waiting for 2 hours on the phone to say that it’s the computer that isn’t compatible with their product.

I’m too angry, but if you have the solution then I'm all ears, but I think the lifespan of my printer is likely to be very short.

Hi there,

Have you thought about putting your box in pairing mode?
In summary: you start the printer's Wi-Fi search, and once the box appears at the top of the list, you give it the WEP key. Before continuing, that is, before running the Wi-Fi search again, you set your box to pairing mode (check your box manual for which button to press; be careful with the Livebox as this only lasts for 10 minutes) and you finalize your setup, and that's it.
Your printer connects to your box via Wi-Fi, and since you specified the WEP key, you are additionally secured and won’t have to struggle with an unsecured HP setup with a radio connection. When you initiate a print request, your PC sends your job to the box, and voilà, you’ve got your printout.
Now it's your turn to play.

P.S.: To save time, it’s better to uninstall everything and go to the HP website. Choose the right one
and reinstall everything with the latest version, and that way you'll be all set.

Problem solved a long time ago but I had forgotten to post:

First, just download the installation software update from the HP website (the CD ROM is therefore useless).

Follow the installation that appears on the screen (WiFi choice and all that).

Once everything is installed, right-click on the internet connection at the bottom right next to the time, "connect to a network" and choose "hpsetup".

Everything works very well.

I repeat this for an installation without a WiFi modem. After that, I don't know ;)
