Connecting Canon MP495 Printer via WiFi

Hello,
I bought a Canon MP495 printer that the seller advised me to set up with a USB cable first with the computer.
The problem is, how do I do it now?
Is it because my modem doesn't have a USB cable input, and only phone line inputs (transparent plugs)?

Configuration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 7.0
