CTRL keys are not working anymore

Hello,

Let's get straight to the point: On Windows XP, I have a wireless Logitech keyboard and my CTRL keys are not working at all. I tested it with another keyboard, but it didn't help, so I suspect a software malfunction.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the keyboard drivers, but still nothing. I also ran antivirus scans, and aside from cookies, there were no trojans or spyware, nothing at all. Moreover, the sticky keys are not activated.

As a graphic designer, I frequently use shortcut keys, so it's a bit of a hassle.
I've been searching for answers all over the internet for a few months, but I haven't found anything...

Does anyone have any idea?

Hello, I had the same problem, the solution for me was simple, just press alt + caps lock, disable the caps lock and there you go, problem solved.

When you say that you tested with another keyboard... was it a wireless keyboard or a wired one?

have you checked if there are any newer drivers than the ones you have? otherwise, head here: https://www.driverscloud.com/ click on "start detection", then "download my drivers"

Well, honestly, on top of that, I've been looking into it here and there... I can't really see... and frankly, I don't know anyone who's had this kind of problem before... I still have some hope... a friend who knows better than I do... he's not easy to reach right now, but as soon as I catch him, I'll ask him!! :D

if it doesn't work, try starting in safe mode (why didn't I think of that earlier???)
to start in safe mode: press f8 when the pc starts up.... then choose "safe mode"....

Sorry for not being able to respond sooner, being away from home is the reason.. anyway

So I tried what you suggested, but unfortunately it doesn’t work!

I don’t know lol it could be very annoying, but oh well, we’ll use the on-screen keyboard!!

Go check in Control Panel > Accessibility Options... you might find something in there...

I've had the same thing happen to me, I have a Toshiba laptop and both ctrl keys are completely unresponsive. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, updating them, installing others... nothing works. In the end, I found an alternative solution, worth what it's worth.

I downloaded a small freeware called KeyTweak, which allows you to remap the keys. I assigned the left ctrl to the "square" key, above Tab. It didn't really solve my problem, but I think the keys are dead: avast, avg AND norton scanned my whole pc and found no infections.

I hope this can help you, beru, if your problem isn't resolved, because I just pulled my hair out for about ten days. Being a backup freak, the ctrl key is my friend.

I found it?  The keyboard configuration was no longer in Azerty for me (English keyboard layout)..... Hence, CTRL+A doesn't work anymore for example.

I had the same issue with the CTRL key and also the SHIFT key not working anymore.
I exited the Logitech Webcam utility in the taskbar and the keys returned to normal.

Now I just need to understand why this conflict occurred. Probably due to something else, as everything was working perfectly in the days before. I will find out.
