Keyboard locked: what to do? Solved

Question

Dear friends, the keyboard of my PC is blocked (I'm writing from another workstation). Everything works normally, including the mouse, but when you press a key on the keyboard, you only get a "beep". I tried to do a "system restore" to an earlier date, a procedure that usually works without problems, but without success; the machine reports that it can no longer do it. I ran a full scan with Kaspersky (real-time protection installed), which found nothing. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks to all, Benny Configuration: PC Fujitsu Siemens running Windows XP

I had exactly the same problem (certain letters work and others show numbers), in fact, you just need to press Fn then Num Lock there you go, I hope my intervention will be helpful =)

Maybe the keyboard is simply broken, since you're writing from another workstation, try the keyboard from that other workstation Ghost

In that case, I think uninstalling the current keyboard (I assume French France) and putting another one, for example, French Belgium, and then putting the first one back if it's a software problem

I encountered a similar problem: I was unable to type on the keyboard and launch programs from the desktop icons (when I clicked on them, the window that normally appears with a right-click showed up)...
After searching in vain for a complex solution, I realized that the Alt Gr key on my keyboard was stuck!
IT professionals will find my solution ridiculous, but since I unstuck that key, everything is working again.

Hello Benny,

Have you tried the control panel and then accessibility? Then uncheck: filter keys and sticky keys.

You just need to press the shift key 5 times in a row and the keyboard gets stuck.

So I have the same problem, my keyboard (desktop PC) isn't working anymore, everything else works but I can't use my keyboard. I checked the connections and they're fine, the problem is that when I plug it in the lights come on so I suppose it's not dead, but they only stay on for like 1/2 a second then black out... Plus, to access my account I have a password so I can't even get in, I'm forced to use another one that doesn't have a password but it's not the administrator account so it doesn't change much...

Any ideas?

Hello, do you have an option for a keyboard lock or a shortcut for "sticky keys"? On my Packard Bell, pressing the "shift" key 5 times locks certain keys on the keyboard, and when I click on them, there is also a beep. Check your PC manual to see what keyboard shortcuts are assigned. See you!

Hello Clo1950, for your numeric keypad that isn't working, you need to activate the Num Lock by pressing the "Num Lock" key, which is usually located at the top right of your keyboard (if it's a laptop, you may need to press the "FN" key first, then "Num Lock," depending on the brand and model).

Thank you and a thousand thanks! I've been stuck for a week; I thought it was a virus. True, my PC wasn't in perfect shape, but even after cleaning, my keyboard was still stuck and only on the session I use. It's a joy to be able to type with a normal keyboard and not the virtual keyboard. Also, I posted a similar question on this forum and didn't get any answers. :)

Hi, for those still looking, it's the filter keys that are activated. Control panel --> search: filter key --> change how your keyboard works --> uncheck the filter keys box and click apply :)
