My screen brightness is stuck. How can I change it?

Hello everyone,
A few days ago, I naturally closed the lid of my Samsung NP 370 R 5 E-S 02, which put it in sleep mode, and in the meantime, I unplugged the charger.
The problem is that when I turned it back on, the screen brightness was low (like when it's not plugged into the wall), and when I try to increase the brightness through the settings or the keyboard, nothing changes.
I’ve already tried adjusting the power management settings, using the keyboard, unplugging and plugging in the power cord, and restarting the computer multiple times, but nothing works, and the issue is quite frustrating...
I have been using Windows 8.1 since Friday morning.
Hoping for a quick and helpful response, thank you for reading my message.

Hello guys,

Well, I also had the problem (between us, it’s pretty incredible that a company as big as Microsoft didn't provide us with an automatic update to fix the issue)... maybe they're not even aware of it, too busy tinkering with a Windows 9... and oh, Hello, Hello Houston or Seattle... we’re 535 million here and the brightness isn’t working, your thing is messing up, I'm straining my eyes because the brightness is at max and I can't lower it... well, I’m joking a bit, but in the meantime, back to work.

No worries, I found the solution on the forums in English, couldn’t find anything in French or it didn’t work like the Dropbox link above... or other stuff. Note that the US solution isn’t complete and in the end, you’ll need to do an update to finish the protocol, but no worry.

So here’s the solution, if it worked for me, I have a Samsung np300e5e by the way with an i3, I hope it works for you. It took me 5 minutes, not counting the searches on the net.

I typed: windows 8.1 brightness problem in the search bar and the first link at the top was the right one, Bingo with my little modification.

Here’s the link in English: https://www.wiknix.com/brightness-not-working-in-windows-8-1/

In summary and in French:

1) You need to go with the mouse to the bottom right of the screen on the taskbar of W8.1 on the search icon at the top and type: Device Manager.

A list will appear; click on the first one: device manager.

2) At the top left, click on device manager.

3) Then click on display adapters.

4) Click on Intel R HD 4000 (by the way, that’s what I have on my computer, with underneath NVIDIA GeForce 710 M, but I only dealt with the Intel R HD 4000 graphics card; if you have another graphics card on your machine, click on it and pray that it works and continue the procedure).

5) Right-click and choose update driver.

6) Two choices appear: search automatically at the top or browse my computer for drivers manually at the bottom; click on browse my computer for drivers at the bottom.

7) A new window opens; click at the bottom on choose from a list of device drivers on my computer.

8) Click on Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, then Next, the computer will change the video card.

9) The tutorial in English stops here and it still doesn’t work, so I went through the process again from the beginning, updating the graphics card with the most recent version; it takes between 1 and 5 minutes depending on your connection, and now it works fine.

10) Click on display adapters.

11) Right-click on Microsoft Basic Display Adapter and select update driver (by the way, if you update from the beginning, it won’t work because you’ve already had the update with W8.1 for those who follow and are interested, you need to reinstall it).

12) This time we do it automatically at the top (search automatically for a driver update).

13) Windows 8.1 searches for the latest update for the graphics card.

14) Once the update is done, check if you can adjust the brightness; it works for me, end of transmission, thank you for your trust.

If it also works for you, let me know; I’d be happy that my tutorial works.

I stopped at basic Microsoft card and then clicked "next" and it worked. :)
