Hello I installed a Gotek on my Yamaha QY 300 sequencer the reader is broken.

They ask me to make images of my Q3A sequences in IMG how

to do it I’m a bit short on explanation is it possible to explain to me I don’t get it. Thanks.

    Hello,

    The important point is that Gotek generally does not read Q3A files directly from the USB key. Each .IMG or .HFE file represents a complete virtual diskette. The Q3A files must therefore be copied inside a 720 KB floppy image compatible with the QY300.

    You need to open a blank 720 KB .IMG image with software that can modify the contents of a virtual diskette, copy the Q3A files there, save the image, and then place this finished image on the Gotek USB key.

    Simply renaming a Q3A file to .IMG is not enough: an IMG file contains the entire filesystem of the diskette. My disk image conversion tool can also be useful if you need to convert an existing image between supported formats, for example between IMG and HFE:

    To be transparent, this is my own tool. It is mainly intended to convert and inspect diskette images; you will still need a way to copy the Q3A files inside the image if it is not already prepared.

    Hello,

    I think you need to create IMG files in 720 KB format because your QY300 uses double-density disks.

    That famous Gotek can replace that famous drive

    There are software programs you can download to create virtual disk images.

    But with an original floppy you can read it on a PC equipped with a USB drive compatible with DD, and this Gotek can replace that drive if you don’t have an original one on your PC.

    You still need to create a virtual floppy disk though.
