Keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+c, v, x... are not working anymore. Solved

Hello,

My problem might be quite silly but it's pretty frustrating; I no longer have shortcuts using the Ctrl key. This means that when I select text or a URL and press Ctrl+c, it doesn’t copy anything and instead replaces the selection with a "c". The same goes for pasting, cutting, etc. I've searched a bit on CCM and Google, but unfortunately I couldn’t find anything similar.

I’m using Windows XP SP2, and I haven’t done anything special that could trigger this issue.

If anyone can tell me what to do to fix this problem or where it might be coming from, I’ve looked in the control panel and checked around but found nothing at all...

I feel a little less alone... did the two Ctrl keys suddenly stop working?

It's true that I miss Ctrl, especially when there's no right-click option to copy/paste.

I've done system scans in every direction (for spywares and others, ran CCleaner and Avast... except HijackThis... I can't read the logs) but nothing...

In the meantime, hang in there... there’s always the right-click!

LO: I just joined the topic halfway through and as I'm reaching the end, I see that you've found the solution.

I had the same problem with the CTRL key and it was simply because it was broken. Since I love shortcut keys, I bought a new keyboard.

Oh alright, it was simple really, not having another keyboard at hand I didn't try to change it. It seemed really strange to me, two Ctrl keys suddenly stopping to work... I was thinking it was a software issue, but apparently they must be connected on the same circuit or something like that, I mean if a dedicated place for Ctrl messes everything up!

In any case, thanks for letting me know Sacho2u and thanks to Alman for the confirmation! It’s getting a bit old and has been tapped millions, maybe even billions of times pretty quickly... few things are eternal!

If it's a laptop... well, a little prayer might do the trick, otherwise it could be quite complicated and/or expensive to change!

The first thing is to check if both keys are not working, if that's the case, I think the problem comes from the keyboard (like it did for Sancho2u and me 3 years ago, time flies!).
If it indeed turns out to be the circuit underneath, then you need to consult a repairman and maybe replace the whole keyboard... that's the kind of sticky stuff that happens with laptops.
If only one of the Ctrl keys isn't working, it could just be that the key itself has a problem; in that case, it’s possible to replace it for not much, just test it (remove it, check it, and try another one).
