Hello,
I am here to ask a kind soul to please give me the instructions to unlock my Philips DVP 5980 player because I have several Canadian DVDs due to my origins... I have done a lot of research online but to no avail, which is why I hope to hear back from you... I had found a code to enter but it does not work; this code was 6 digits while only 5 digits can be entered... Anyway, I look forward to your reply as soon as possible and thank you in advance... Kiss

I have a DVP 5990 and we can't enter any codes. In the setup, I have "disc lock" grayed out and cannot access it. No preference menu.
Thank you for your help.

Thanks, it works perfectly on my dvp3260!
And to respond to the last message, there are several tabs and disc lock has nothing to do with the unlocking procedure apparently. The preference page is the 4th tab on the right (you just need to press > three times and then follow the instructions given here.
