Philips TV remote control issue

Hello,

I have a Philips 40PFL8605H/12 LED TV from 2010.

For some time now, the television no longer responds to the original Philips remote control. It's not a big deal since the TV is connected to my Freebox and the FREE remote in HDMI CEC mode turns on the TV and controls the sound. However, I wanted to access the TV menus to occasionally access other devices (VHS player). But it doesn't work.

And the buttons on the front don't allow me to do everything, particularly adjusting the Ambilight or checking the software version.

The batteries are good and I tested my remote control with a camera, and I can see the infrared light. However, the red light on the TV doesn't blink when I press any button!

I tried several apps on my smartphone, both Philips and universal, and none allow me to establish a good connection, even though the TV is wired to the same network as my Android smartphone. The TV has an IP address in the DHCP network of the Freebox, but the Philips TV app doesn't find the TV.

How can I reset the connection between the television and its original remote control?

Thank you for your help and advice.

Hello jlchaps,

I have a strong impression that the infrared receiver of your TV is broken ("However, the red light on the TV doesn't blink when I press a button, any button!").
But this only concerns the remote control, not the network connection.

Best regards!

Hello

You can check the remote control with the smartphone camera, it displays the infrared.

txiki: can this be tested?

redbart: I mentioned in my message that it has already been tested...

Unfortunately, you would need to test the remote control on another TV of the same brand and model. That’s quite difficult (unless your neighbor has one?).

Only a technician might be able to do it if he has the right tools for that.
Good luck!

Hello,

Well... I tested the remote control at my mother-in-law's, who has a Philips TV of the same generation, and it works very well with the reception light blinking properly.

But at my place, the infrared reception light does not blink when I use the remote control.

Otherwise, it’s hard to navigate through the menus without the remote control.

I did, however, try to go to "setup," then "TV settings," then "reinstall the TV" => it lasted 1 second and returned to the menu, without restarting. I don’t know if it worked.

Anyway, I still have no reaction from the TV with the remote control.

So my problem is not resolved.

Could the infrared reception circuit be the cause?

Is it easily replaceable? Where can I find the breakdown of the TV and the part?

Thank you for your help.

"But at my place, the infrared reception light doesn’t blink when I use the remote control.": that’s proof that the infrared receiver is dead.

"Is it easily replaceable?": I don’t think so, it must be located on the TV's motherboard.

See here for spare parts for Philips.

Thank you, I found documentation online and apparently there is a specific card for the infrared receiver, but other people are telling me that it might be the motherboard and that it is a known and common issue with Philips.
