Hello,

I don't know how this happened, my Documents folder and its subfolders appear with a notch on the lower left side and I just saw, in the title bar, that it indicates:

C:\Users\hpcmo\OneDrive\Documents\Documents\informatique

How can I get the documents back to "normal" form?

Thank you for your answers.

Have a nice evening.

Best regards.

    Hello,

This appears when files are synchronized with OneDrive; to get a "normal" icon back, you need to disable synchronization. There are two places to check in the OneDrive settings:

First, click on the OneDrive icon that should be located in the notification area at the bottom right of your screen.

In the window that opens, click on the gear icon in the top right > Settings

    1) On the left side of the window, click on the Sync and backup menu > Manage backup
In the page that opens, make sure that the various folders, including Documents, that you do not wish to sync are unchecked.

    2) In the previous Settings window, click on Account > Select folders
In the page that opens, make sure that the various folders, including Documents, that you do not wish to sync are unchecked.

After that, you should get your normal icon back; however, it is possible that a copy of all previously uploaded files is still on OneDrive. To check, in the Windows file explorer, click on OneDrive on the left, and there you will find the files that are there, to delete or not as you see fit. (Deleting will only affect the OneDrive copy)

      Hello,

      Thank you for your response.

Last night a friend disabled or uninstalled OneDrive, and I can no longer find the icon. I can't follow the steps you suggested.

How can I recover the icon?

If it has been uninstalled, do I need to reinstall it?

Could this cause problems with the files, like deleting them...?

      Thank you for your response.

      Best regards.

      Hello MaxGix,

I have downloaded OneDrive again and followed your instructions.

      When I follow your guidelines:

In the previous Settings window, in the left menu click on Account > Choose folders
In the page that opens, make sure that the various folders including Documents that you do not want to sync are unchecked.

When I click to uncheck, the following message appears:

      unable to stop synchronization

the folder you are trying to deselect contains the windows

.... which is an important folder in Windows and is currently

      pointed to OneDrive.

      What can I do?

      Thank you for your response.

      Best regards.

      Hello,

it's going to be complicated to provide you with effective help given that there have been quite a few tweaks. So in the file explorer, at the top left, click on Home, there you should see your different folders, right-click on Documents then Properties, tab Locations and check the path that is indicated, normally it should be "C:\Users\Session Name\Documents" In my case it points elsewhere but by default it should be that

    Hello,

Restore the default location of the '' Documents'' folder

Save this .bat file ==► Restore_default_location_of_Documents_folder

    Go to your ''Downloads'' folder

    Run the .bat file

    -------------------------------

The screen temporarily turns black when a command prompt opens and closes when Explorer is restarted to apply the Registry changes

    Restart the PC.

If the command window gets stuck on a black screen:

Open the task manager with the keyboard keys ==► Ctrl+alt+Delete

In the Processes tab search for ==►Explorer or Windows Explorer

    Right-click ==► Restart

    Restart the PC.

    ------------------------------------

    With Windows 11:

At the top of the task manager, click ==► Run a new task

In the ''Open'' box type (in lowercase) =► explorer .exe

Check the box =► Create this task with administrative privileges

    Click ==► OK

    Restart the PC.

If everything has been done correctly, the ''Documents'' folder will be restored, and the green ticks will disappear.

    Before:

     C:\Users\hpcmo\OneDrive\Documents\Documents\informatique

    After:

     C:\Users\hpcmo\Documents\Documents\informatique

One drive will no longer sync the documents.

    See you later

    Hello,

As you indicated, I downloaded the

    file bat ==► Restore_default_location_of_Documents_folder

I can't attach the image here.

    The icon shows:

    MJmkBIdanfW_Restore-default-location-of-Documents-folder

however, when I double-click, it does not execute.

    What can I do?

    Thank you for your reply.

    Best regards.

    Hello;

    Try this ==► link

Once the explorer is open, save the .bat file on the Desktop.

Where you will find it in your ''Downloads'' folder.

    Run the .bat file.

    Restart the PC

    P.S:

Do not download the .bat file with Edge (Because of Smartscreen)

If the link does not work, click on this ==► CCM post

Save the .bat file in ''Documents''.

      Hello,

Thank you for the new information.

For everything you've just told me, nothing works.

A black screen with the following message appears:

Operation successful: The process "explorer.exe" with PID 37784 has been terminated.

      The operation was successful..

      The operation was successful..

      The operation was successful..

Then, the black screen disappears immediately.

      Best regards.

    Hello

Under Windows 11, OneDrive is integrated into the OS, and access is via the settings homepage, whether it is installed or not:

For Windows 10 and earlier, it must be downloaded from the Microsoft website, since OneDrive is a secure cloud (kind of....), you should not do it from a third-party site.

Download the OneDrive app for PC, Mac, Android, or iOS - Microsoft OneDrive

        Restart the PC.

--► Then, the black screen disappears immediately.

This is normal, as it's meant to change the path/location of the Documents folder.

Consequently, you need to restart the PC for the change to take effect.

Then check if your "Documents" folder is normal.

To do this, open Windows Explorer.

Normally, the green checks will no longer be there.

        See you+
