No sound in Windows 10

Hello,

I haven't had sound since I tested Ccleaner Pro to free up space on my C drive. The software updated the drivers and did some cleaning (including the registry). I contacted HP (I have an HP Pavilion) who had me update the BIOS, uninstall and reinstall the sound card, and run a system test that revealed nothing. I also did a reset (keeping the data), which changed nothing.

I'm on Windows 10 Home version 22H2. When I click on the audio icon with the red cross, it tells me that no audio device is installed (and indeed I see nothing in either the playback or recording tab). When I run the troubleshooter, the problem detection finds no issues. The speaker configuration shows (UNKNOWN) and I don't see "speakers" anywhere in the devices.

I have read messages from people with similar problems, and I looked up the identification numbers for my Realtek sound card:

INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0295&SUBSYS_103C84C1&REV_1000
INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0295&SUBSYS_103C84C1

The person I spoke with at HP support thinks it might be a hardware failure. I'm turning to you in case someone has an idea of what I could do further to check that it's not a configuration issue...

Thank you for reading,

Have a good evening,

Lille

    Update: I was able to get a Bluetooth headset, and it works with the headset. So it's the speakers that are not working.

    Thank you

    Hello,

    Windows key + X
    Device Manager

    Do you have a section --> Other devices?
    If yes, what is the problematic device?

    What do you have in audio, video, and game controllers?

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Brand and model number of the PC?
    Windows + R
    Type --> msinfo32.exe and OK
    Look in Manufacturer and Model
    Example image:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Windows key + R
    Type --> mmsys.cpl and OK.

    In the Playback tab, do you have Realtek High Definition Audio (speakers) set as default?

    Hello,

    Thank you very much for this response! No, I don’t have any other devices in the manager. In audio, video and game controllers, I have the drivers for the Bluetooth headset, NVIDIA Virtual audio device (wave extensible) (WDM), my Realtek audio sound card and Intel(R) sound for screen. No issues are reported on these devices and the drivers are up to date.

    In sound, I don’t have the speakers in the playback tab nor the built-in mic in the recording tab. I’ve had the Bluetooth headset since I connected it; before that, I had the message “no device is installed.”

    My computer is an HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cs1xxx.

    Thank you very much for your help,

    Lille

    The Realtek audio sound card is indeed this one:
    --> INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0295&SUBSYS_103C84C1

    What is the current version and date of the driver?

    If you haven't done it yet, try this: click on the speaker icon, click on Sound, then on Playback. Right-click in the window that opens and click Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices.

    Thank you very much. I did all that, unfortunately it still doesn't work. I received a message after doing:

    Select the folder --> ExtRtk_9452
    OK, next

    that the best driver was already installed, I don't know if that's important. In any case, I did exactly what you described :-(

    The proposed driver version --> 6.0.9452.1
    The one already installed --> 6.0.9414.1

    Try this:
    Go to Device Manager
    Right-click on the device
    Update driver
    Browse my computer for drivers
    Choose from a list of drivers...
    Provided disk
    Browse
    Go to the unzipped driver folder --> sp143948
    Folder --> ExtRtk_9452
    Select the file --> HDX_HpExt_HSA.inf and OK.
    Restart.

    Thank you Kaneagle for all the advice. After selecting the .inf file, my computer refuses to proceed by notifying me: "The folder you specified does not contain a compatible driver for your device. If your folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64 processor computers."

    Weird, the driver is for a 64-bit version!

    CCleaner does more harm than good!

    Perform a repair of Windows.
    Check this out --> Repair Windows 10 without losing data

    If the repair did not work, perform a clean reinstall of Windows 10.
    --> How to install Windows 10

    Thank you for your response, I will look into that. I may also have a new lead. I was looking at something for my printer when I saw, in Devices and Printers, a yellow triangle with an exclamation point on my computer in "devices". Hovering over it, it tells me that the OED driver for Intel(R) Smart Sound technology cannot start (code 10). I go into its properties, and it says "failed to load external libraries".

    By clicking on this driver, I see that its date is 08/05/21 and its version is 10.23.4880.250. I cannot update the driver, it is grayed out. When I click on details, I get a whole bunch of lines. In the Details tab, I have its identification number:

    INTELAUDIO\DSP_CTLR_DEV_9DC8&VEN_8086&DEV_0222&SUBSYS_84C1103C&REV_0030

    INTELAUDIO\DSP_CTLR_DEV_9DC8&VEN_8086&DEV_0222&SUBSYS_84C1103C

    In the Event tab information, I have this:

    The device INTELAUDIO\DSP_CTLR_DEV_9DC8&VEN_8086&DEV_0222&SUBSYS_84C1103C&REV_0030\4&1bfa4ac3&0&0800 has been configured.

    Driver name: oem144.inf
    Class GUID: {4d36e97d-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
    Driver date: 08/05/2021
    Driver version: 10.23.4880.250
    Driver provider: Intel(R) Corporation
    Driver section: IntcOED.NT
    Driver ranking: 0xFF2001
    Corresponding device identification number: INTELAUDIO\DSP_CTLR_DEV_9DC8&VEN_8086&DEV_0222
    Overridden drivers: oem71.inf:INTELAUDIO\DSP_CTLR_DEV_9DC8&VEN_8086&DEV_0222:00FF2001
    Device updated: false
    Parent device: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9DC8&SUBSYS_84C1103C&REV_30\3&11583659&0&FB

    on the day I reset my PC. Above, it states: device not started (IntcOED)

    I cannot find this device in the device manager. I do have a Sound Inter(R) thing for the screen, but it seems to be something else; it apparently works normally and the driver is up to date.

    I tried troubleshooting by right-clicking on my computer icon (devices and printers window), I restarted, but to no avail.

    Could this be related to my sound issues?

    Device Manager
    Go to --> System devices
    Is there a device alert?

    If so, what is the problematic device and its hardware ID?

    Indeed, it appears in the system devices, with an error reported. The title is Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology OED Driver, and its identification number is the one I provided in my previous message:

    INTELAUDIO\DSP_CTLR_DEV_9DC8&VEN_8086&DEV_0222&SUBSYS_84C1103C&REV_0030

    INTELAUDIO\DSP_CTLR_DEV_9DC8&VEN_8086&DEV_0222&SUBSYS_84C1103C

    In the device manager, I can click on update, but it tells me that the latest version is already installed. The reported error is still the same (the Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology OED driver cannot start (code 10), "failed to load external libraries").

    You’re welcome.

    For drivers, forget CCleaner.
    For driver updates, go to the website of the computer or motherboard manufacturer.

    Have a good day.
