MMS reading issue

I can't read my MMS on iPhone 13 mini.
As soon as I receive one, I'm notified by SMS and I have to click on a link in that message, enter my phone number, and provide a random password received by SMS as well.
Isn't that a bit cumbersome?

Maybe it's your carrier and not the iPhone (in any case, I don't see anything in the Apple FAQ that could explain this)...
I'm thinking about this because I know that my carrier (I'm in Switzerland) announced at the beginning of January this year that it had decided to stop the MMS service for all its subscribers... and is consequently encouraging people to install instant messaging apps like WhatsApp.
And indeed, in the 6 months leading up to the complete stoppage of the service, people received MMS as URLs to view online... (and now they don't receive anything anymore).
