Hello,

It's been several years now that I haven't been able to update Windows 10 on my wife's computer

including by using the Microsoft tool https://download.microsoft.com/download/b/0/5/b053c6bc-fc07-4785-a66a-63c5aeb715a9/MediaCreationTool21H2.exe

each time it stops with an error message
Yesterday I got error code: 0xc06d007f

I had the same problem when trying to install Word that I had put on mine

A problem with the Windows installation software?
Any other ideas?

After checks with FRST the computer is not infected

Thank you in advance for your help.

Didier

Configuration: Windows / Firefox 100.0

    Hello .....

I suggest you check out ► This link (See the latest post ► Here) ...
Same error as yours, and according to the author, the culprit might be an outdated Edge ????
Check if your Edge is up to date ... if not, update it and give it a try

      Hello,
I believe Didier is on Firefox 100 and not on Edge unless I'm mistaken.

      Best regards

      Re ......

There seems to be a small change since the message has changed.....

I suggest you try using Windows Update WuReset which is in the link that Phénix 64, whom I also greet, shared earlier...► See here
Take the time to read its usage on the link before launching it in administrator mode
This tool is effective and fixes quite a few Windows Update errors
Its download link is ► Here

Regarding your last error message ► See here

Once you have cleaned everything up and restarted ► Start the Windows 10 update again..

      A+

      Hello everyone ......

Can you specify the exact version of this W10 that is currently installed on your PC
In the search bar ► Type Winver ... and in the window that opens, you will see this version number
Also open the hidden files of W10 and delete C:\$WINDOWS.~BT which should be at the top of the list
Did you properly use the Windows Update utility WuReset mentioned above?

      See you +

    Good evening

I tried all the proposed links. It doesn't change anything: still the error code 0xc06d007f

I can't delete C:\$WINDOWS.~BT, I'm asked for administrator rights and I can't seem to grant the rights to delete it
right-click on C:\$WINDOWS.~BT / properties / security / edit and there it's impossible to check special permissions

my system: version 1709 of the operating system 16299.125 win10 home

    thank you for your help

      Hello .....

You should be able to delete C:\$WINDOWS.~BT by following the instructions ► Here
When you run Disk Cleanup ► Click on the Clean up system files button ► Let the cleanup finish, and when it's done ► Check all the small boxes on the right from the first to the last one to delete everything
      See you!

    --Good evening
I managed to delete C:\$WINDOWS.~BT by restarting the computer in safe mode.

    New update attempt
It seemed to be working with a message telling me it was installing the update

Then, patatras, a new error message

0x80070002-0x3000 the installation failed in the FIRST-BOOT phase with an error during the MIGRATE-DATA operation

Do you have any new ideas?
    Thanks in advance

        Hi Phénix 64 ....

In my opinion, he shouldn’t try to update his W10 but rather back up his personal documents and reinstall a fresh Windows 10... it’s a bit hard to follow because our friend is somewhat patchy in his updates... maybe due to work...
        Best regards

        Hi jmarion.
Yes, you're right but I wanted him to try, you never know.
It's clear that our friend responds in a roundabout way but I think our advice is also a bit vague :-(
I'm just saying, I'm not saying anything.
I totally understand Didier because I think the problem is quite annoying.
Otherwise, I only see one last solution, to back up all documents, photos... and do a clean reinstall of Windows as you mentioned.
        Catch you later!

It's clear that our friend is responding in a roundabout way, but I also think that our advice is too :-( I'm just saying this, not implying anything

Personally, I respond as he asks questions, and it's hard to do better....
I'll let you continue because I imagine that we are complicating things for Didier by giving him sometimes conflicting advice ... but a clean reinstall seems to be the best option given where he is at....
        Best regards

Oops, sorry, there’s a misunderstanding and a big mistake on my part :-(
What I meant to say is that the advice given is only partially followed, so it’s a bit vague.
As for whether to continue solving this problem or not, you can do as you wish, I don’t have anything else to suggest for now.

        See you!

Good evening everyone, and thank you for your advice.

I have always carefully followed your advice before attempting updates.
I do this in the evening after work, and it always takes 2 hours for cleaning, downloading, and installation attempts.
I will try to follow Phénix's advice tonight.

    Thanks again.
    Didier

    Hello everyone
after a backup I ended up reinstalling Windows from my repair disc
    I have Win10 version 1511
it tells me there are no updates even though I know there are others.

I was on 1607 and it wasn't up to date yet.

where should I go to install the latest version of Win10?

    thanks again
