Hello everyone,
Thank you for your help. I'm suffering...
Recurring problem reappeared with Gmail. Refusal to give messages to Thunderbird.
I previously had this problem which I resolved as follows:
Logging into my account directly on Gmail, accepting "less secure apps" in the settings, then I still had to change the password because otherwise Thunderbird remains stuck.
Then in Thunderbird, changing the password for the Gmail account.
But now I can no longer find the location of the passwords The help corresponds to an older version of Thunderbird
How can I access the passwords to modify them?
Thank you so much for guiding me.

Hello,

To change the password, you first need to delete it and then enter the new one when Thunderbird tries to connect to the account.

To delete it, go to the top right in "Preferences" and then click on the "Saved passwords" button:

Thank you very much for your help that reassured me to persist and I am finally unstuck:
In Thunderbird and my difficulties finding the passwords:
I am on the most recent version, which does not have a tree structure like Tools / Options / Privacy and Security /
It was because I was looking for a section named Options that I was stuck.
In fact, it is the old images of the Thunderbird pages that are provided in the online help of Mozilla Thunderbird, so I couldn't find it

Actually, I access it through the "Tools" menu then "Preferences" and finally "Privacy and Security" and then "Saved Passwords"
Or also through the menu at the top right directly to "Preferences"

But you also need to ensure on Gmail on a live page to allow "Less secure access" or Thunderbird is still not in good standing.

Thank you again. Glad to finally be unstuck...

You're welcome, if you don't want to allow "less secure apps," it's possible to use app passwords.

In your Gmail/Google account, you can create and use an app password, which you will enter in Thunderbird instead of your Gmail password.

Oh really! How do I create this application password in detail? If I search online, will I be able to find an explanation page? Is Thunderbird for my account somehow authorized?
So I would have my regular password that I use on my phone for my emails and another specific one for Thunderbird?
I would be very interested if you had a link to provide. Otherwise, I will look for it.
Thank you.

Hello @JMS49,

In Thunderbird, the saved passwords are located under Tools / Options / Privacy & Security / Saved Passwords / Show Passwords / Yes.

Thank you very much. My problem is solved, and I am giving you partly the same response I made to Barnabe0057:
It’s because I was looking for an Options section that I was blocked.
In fact, it’s the old images of the Thunderbird pages that are provided in the online help of Thunderbird Mozilla, and I couldn’t find it.

Actually, I access it through the menu bar "Tools", then "Preferences", and finally "Privacy & Security" and then "Saved Passwords".
Or also through the menu at the top right and directly "Preferences".

But I can also add for those who might have the same problem with Gmail, this which will surely help some:
you first need to exit Thunderbird and log into a Gmail page directly.
In your account:
Click on Inbox at the top right on the Settings wheel.
Then click on "See all settings".
Then choose the "Accounts and Import" tab.
Then in the "Change account settings" section, choose "Other Google Account settings".
Then select "Security".
Scroll down to the section: "Less secure app access" and click on "Turn on access for less secure apps (not recommended)".
On the page that opens, activate by moving the slider to the right.
(This is because Gmail continues to consider that Thunderbird, free application, does not present sufficient security... ? Commercial reason?

Thanks again for your help!

Hello @JMS49

Business reason?

Certainly not! Thunderbird is not a commercial product. It is a free product developed by a community of volunteer users.

Gmail generally considers email clients as less secure applications.

Yes, that's right, but it accepts Outlook, which I have used for a long time and which is a paid application...
I definitely prefer Thunderbird.
Thank you.
