Moreover, I advise against trying to find the incoming and outgoing folders in the Thunderbird profile. Restricted area for developers.

All the average user needs to know is that the Profiles folder contains everything: emails, attachments, contacts, history, product status, account settings.
It is this entire folder that needs to be backed up and nothing else.

As for the space occupied on the disk, it’s not a concern with today’s disk capacities.
In my case, 7 years of using portable Thunderbird only takes up less than 6 GB on a USB drive.

From a maintenance perspective for TB, remember to occasionally compact the active folders (Right-click / compact) and empty the trash (right-click / empty this trash now).
Deleted messages from a folder are simply marked as deleted and copied to the trash.
Compacting recovers the space used by deleted messages and improves performance.
