Mail unexpectedly quits

Hello!
My problem concerns the Mail app on my 8-year-old MacBook Pro running OS X El Capitan.
Simply put, it "quits unexpectedly."
But I have a lead; it seems to happen when I receive emails from a certain organization. Mail puts some of these emails in the junk folder, and I first encountered this problem consistently when I opened the junk folder. I cleared it out (right-click - empty junk) and that fixed the issue. But now, I have an email in my inbox, so there’s nothing I can do; it quits as soon as I try to open it.
Now that the email is downloaded, I can’t delete it, even from the webmail site (Laposte.net). Does anyone know what to do? Because on the internet, several people have asked this question here and there, and no one has provided a convincing answer.
Thank you in advance!

Configuration: Macintosh / Chrome 88.0.4324.192

Good evening,

It's more than surprising that it isn't possible to delete this message directly on the laposte.net site...

In the meantime, here are some things to try:

- Disconnect the Mac from the internet, to avoid any connection between Mail and the laposte.net servers.

- Then go to your personal library, which is usually hidden, but can be accessed from the "Go" menu in Finder by holding down the option key. More details here:

In your library, you can find the Mail folder, and within that folder, you should find a folder named V4 or V5... I can't remember under El Capitan. Inside this folder, you should find your mailboxes, and in one of those mailboxes, your annoying message. There, you can delete it directly and empty the trash.

Afterward, you can rebuild the mail index. Either via Terminal or with Onyx, which is easier.
Onyx for El Capitan:

While you're in your library, delete the Mail Download folder, which you can see the access path for here:

and possibly this one too:

For Onyx, do the full scan:

Then, without launching Mail, reconnect to the internet and go to laposte.net to try to delete the message...

Let me know what happens next...

Edit: I almost forgot, if necessary, also remove the Mail Preferences:

Hi Francis,
Just to let you know, under El Capitan, the Mail folder in the library contains V2 and V3. V2 only contains "Mailsdata/Accounts.plist" and V3 has the rest mentioned in your message.
Have a nice day.
