Hello everyone,
I installed OS X Yosemite via the App Store a few days ago.
Since then, I can't open my applications (Safari, Mail, Photos...)
I've looked through other discussions but found no solution by repairing permissions or trying to delete files in the library preferences
Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks everyone

Hello,
Maybe a lack of memory but also a preference file issue.
First, restart your Mac (of which you give no details, which is important because we are not clairvoyants) in recovery partition (Recovery HD) by holding down the cmd and R keys until you reach the utilities window. Launch "Disk Utility" and perform a disk repair and a permissions repair, then restart normally.
Open an application and let us know what happens.
Don't forget the details of your configuration ;-)

No, my computer starts up correctly; it’s just that I can no longer open applications like Safari, Mail, Photos, Open Office!
I use my smartphone to go on the forum...
I did what you advised me to do: in Disk Utility, check the disk that "seems to be in good condition" and repair the disk permissions.
I tried to post the report I took a photo of, but the photo won't upload....
My Mac is from 2011, I can start it normally, but I don't know how to "start from the recovery partition" :))...
In fact, my problem is: when I click on an app, it doesn’t open and it displays "Open Office quit unexpectedly" with the details below, but I don’t know anything about that....
I’m not sure if I was clear enough?

Since you can start your Mac normally, go to Apple menu/About This Mac and give me the information that appears in the window that will open.
To start from the recovery partition, I explained how to do it in my previous message; it seems you didn't proceed that way, you only performed a disk check and a permissions repair.
Anyway, please first provide the information requested at the beginning of this message.

I managed to start on the recovery partition, so I followed the steps you advised... but it's not working.
Moreover, when I click on "About This Mac," nothing opens either.

So, you just have to reinstall Mac OS X!
Since you have understood how to boot from the recovery partition, when you arrive at the utilities window, you choose “Reinstall Mac OS.” I hope you have a good connection, and if you want to avoid reinstalling this way in the future, you can create a USB key by following this tutorial, for example:
https://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/41668-creer-une-cle-usb-d-installation-os-x-10-10-yosemite
Or use DiskMaker

Thank you for your help, but for now, it doesn't change anything...
I'm leaving you what appeared on the screen (no copy-paste, sorry, but I don't have a computer right now).

No more computer? What does that mean? It won't start anymore? Did you do what I advised you to do? And what is the result? Could you have made a mistake?
You answered, so you have a means of communication, give some details.
What year is your Mac? Dead hard drive? No question mark during normal startup? Can you boot from the recovery partition or not?

Hello Dede,
I have exactly the same problem on my Mac since my cousin plugged in her USB key :(
I can't open any applications, not even Finder or System Preferences. I suspect she might have imported a virus, but I don't know how to get out of this.
I did the startup CMD+R and ran the Disk Utility, which didn't detect anything. Do you have any other tricks to try? I would like to keep my data on the Mac that was working very well yesterday.
The Mac in question: MacBook Pro from late 2011, Mac OS Sierra. I can't be more precise because launching System Preferences quits unexpectedly.
