Hello,

My Tomtom GPS (4en52 z1230) hasn't turned on for a few days.

I can't even follow the steps on this link: https://help.tomtom.com/hc/en/articles/360013959839-The-GPS-won-t-turn-on because whether it's plugged into a socket or my computer, it doesn't respond.

What can I do?

Configuration: Macintosh / Firefox 78.0

Hello, have you tried staying 15/20 seconds on the stop/start button of your GPS?

Hello,

Otherwise, opening it and changing the internal battery... that's an idea...

Hello, have you tried staying on the power button of your GPS for 15/20 seconds?

Is this to be done when it is plugged in or unplugged?

Otherwise, opening it and changing the internal battery... it's an idea...

How does it charge (I’ve never opened my GPS)?

Me neither, I've never opened it... But I went to look on the internet... and here’s what I found. https://www.amazon.fr/Batterie-TomTom-4EN52-900mAh-Li-ion/dp/B002NE5LXW

So according to the image, this battery is connected with a connector, no screws, no soldering...

You need to open it, change it... check/try and close it again...

The problem is that I don't have anything to plug that kind of socket into.

Normally, this GPS is equipped with a battery with a small connector. It probably plugs into the internal board, it’s possible that these connections are broken since it was no longer working...

"You have nothing to connect" what does that mean..?? do you want to have tools or something..??

If you can't find it, you need to send clear photos to the site "cjoint.com" and paste the link here... we can't guess otherwise.

Do you want to have tools or what..??

What I mean is that I have no sockets compatible with this type of cable.

Afterwards, I have to admit that electronics is not my strong suit.

Good evening,
My TomTom GPS won't turn on anymore

Really not even with a black screen showing an error message?
Hold the power button down for at least 30 seconds (when the GPS is on, without releasing it) then there should normally be white sentences on a black background and then your TomTom should restart...
Additionally, there is a small Reset hole on the underside near the serial number on some TomToms if you pressed into it with a toothpick or a paperclip.

I understand these things... You say you can't find any connections... etc...

Yet, you must see a battery in your current TomTom..??

What is it like..?? What is it connected to..?? I asked you for a photo..?? So far, this is not electronic..

Personally, I don't have this GPS; so I can't tell you... Have you opened the casing..??

Otherwise, find a good friend who knows how to do things like that... Show him this forum reading and kindly ask him to take action...

I don't know what else to tell you... if you want to do something about it...

I have partially solved my problem.

The cable does not work with my GPS (the latter works with another cable), but it seems to work when I plug in my phone.

Oh yes, these are chargers...? So you have to be careful and pay attention to the power written on these chargers... Let's say that now, there are easily 10 chargers around a power strip and it’s easy to take one that isn’t yours...
That’s how you end up with a phone charger... that can’t charge a tablet... one is 2 Amps and the other is 4 Amps, in case of a mix-up, one of the two will be damaged
Everyone should have their own with the right power... And still, if it doesn’t burn out or catch fire.

Not really a charger. More like a USB cable that I plug into a lighter socket of this type: https://www.amazon.fr/Beikell-Device-Adaptive-Technologie-Chargement-Smartphones/dp/B07B7H8L9K/ref=asc_df_B07B7H8L9K/?tag=googshopfr-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=265095513806&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5792474531852728966&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9056337&hvtargid=pla-440031131941&psc=1

There, I tested by connecting both cables with a "multi-USB" box.

So what..?? What does the test say..??

Does the car charger work..?? And its power might be limited... very often it peaks at 500 mA. So it takes 10 hours to charge.

Maybe we should also try charging it with something else; we’re in a situation with faulty equipment here.

So what..?? How did the test go..??

As I mentioned earlier, the cable no longer powers my GPS but charges my phone.

Does the cigarette lighter work..??

Yes, since I can plug my phone into it without any problems.

And its power may be limited... very often it caps at 500 mA. So it takes 10 hours to charge.

Possible. I don’t remember if I ever managed to get my GPS to work with that cigarette lighter.

Maybe I should also try charging it with something else; we are in a situation where the equipment is down.

Exactly, I’m going to try to find another cable to be able to use it.

-- That the phone works on the car charger is possible, but it doesn't prove that the GPS works on the car charger..

-- I think it would be more rational to charge it with a real charger from a wall socket..
