no dial tone on landline, internet is working though Solved

Hello,  I just realized since yesterday that my landline has no dial tone. I don't know when the problem started. Indeed, I am deaf and don't use it; the line (Orange) is for internet.  I tested with two different phones, and nothing works; I tried calling my mobile or from my mobile, and nothing works.  However, my internet line is working; it is plugged into the same socket or a socket next to it (I have two sockets side by side for the same line). I have ADSL filters on each socket, and then I receive internet (Orange) via a D-link ethernet modem (I don't have a box). I've been using this type of modem for years.  I am surprised; I tried with different RJ cables (I believe that's what the telephone wires are called), I unplugged and replugged, and nothing works on the phone side only.  It's not of huge importance since I never make calls, but still, I'd prefer to have a working phone...  Do you have any idea what might be happening? Hello How much do you pay for your Orange subscription? One for the internet and one for the landline?   -- It's very hard to catch a black cat in a dark room. Especially when it's not there...

yes, two subscriptions, one unlimited optimal for the landline, and another basic subscription at 26 euros per month for the internet.

The phone jack is on the filter, it's the black jack in the photo if I can get it uploaded. I also tried to plug it directly (without the black cover) but that doesn’t work either. The filter itself has the modem jack (underneath).  I have other modules, but I’ve done so many tests that I can’t really remember how it was at the beginning.  I haven’t changed my subscription; if any changes have been made by France Telecom, now Orange, I haven't been notified... You mention total unbundling, sorry, I’m not very familiar with that. For instance, regarding the internet, I don't have a fixed IP, it changes with each connection (it has always been like that), I believe that’s the case with Orange. That’s what I associated with unbundling, but if that’s the case, it’s not new.  I will use cjoint for the photo: https://www.cjoint.com/c/KABwZtkFWaK  And here’s a second one with other modules, I can’t remember where everything was at the start (when I noticed the issue) but I had at one point answering machines, etc. and I needed several telephone-type jacks, I haven’t had them for a long time. The full unbundling (in ADSL) is: one internet subscription + the fixed telephone line - the phone is connected to the box. As for your connections, everything seems correct for a double subscription Except for the price.. €40 for unlimited fixed + €26 for internet... I pay at Orange, €45 with unlimited internet and fixed phone (on the box) and 2h for a mobile. There is an anomaly on your line for the telephone part... Check with 3900, via your mobile.  No, there are no phones that don't work on the boxes.. (except for the oldest ones that worked on pulses - push-button phones or rotary dials) What model is your Alcatel, your Doro? -- Very difficult to catch a black cat in a dark room. Especially when it's not there...

Hear plus 313ci for Doro and Temporis 46 the Alcatel  yes it’s expensive, especially the phone that doesn’t work (however 26 euros given my heavy internet usage is really cheap ;) but changing is problematic when you are hard of hearing because the slightest issue can become gigantic and insurmountable. I will have to write to Orange (I can’t call) to explain my problem…  I tested the line on the website and no problem was detected but it’s not clear because they keep talking about the box, as if everyone has one.  I was also wondering if modifications can be made in the technical cabinets of the building, without us necessarily being informed. Like disconnecting our landline (for example to prepare for the mandatory switch to the box in 2023).  At one point there was also a lot of pressure from Orange to subscribe to fiber, I was regularly receiving letters, even last June.  Or maybe since the line is never used, due to my disability, they cut it thinking it wasn’t being used? I’ve had zero usage for years.  Anyway, many hypotheses.  Thanks for your information!

Well, I prepared my nice letter to the customer service in Lille, with a copy to the Orange headquarters... I explained everything thoroughly, at least in writing you can elaborate without being interrupted :)  The third phone arrived today (Gigaset DL580) doesn’t work either, with its brand new connections, it’s probably a network issue.  Just a little remark: Landline phones today seem to not allow sending SMS, which is a bit of a shame. My Alcatel could do it. You would just add a digit to the phone number and it worked for receiving them as well, visible on the screen.  Thank you. I'll keep you updated (if you're interested). I don't know if these issues happen often. I took the liberty of using part of your points regarding the NRA and the mixing of signals.

They are coming tomorrow. Apparently, they are investigating all angles, the technical cabinet in the hallway, and their central office. The cabinet in my hallway, open and accessible to everyone, contains wires from all sorts of operators (neighbors), I hope a competitor hasn't accidentally disconnected me (of course, by mistake). I really don't like knowing that my connections are so easily accessible, not at all. Wait and see ;) In any case, they are responsive, I mentioned some technical stuff thanks to you, so they didn't take me lightly ;) They tell me there shouldn't be any billing.

It ends well! The technician called me asking to test my phone. Still broken. He then came up to my place (he must have been nearby): the RJ socket was dead. We installed another one that worked; anyway, I had tested so many that it was impossible for them all to be dead, it's just a coincidence. When I asked him if he had accessed the technical cabinet on site, he told me he hadn’t. But he added that there were TWO breakdowns at the central office!!! I don’t know what they were. This means they had repaired it remotely before coming, but additionally, there was this faulty RJ socket (which by the way, came from a new phone...).  So the matter ends well and quickly! On my side, I will be more attentive to checking that phone more often.  Thank you very much! :)
