Hello,
My cat lay down on my computer and completely messed up my desktop. I can't find the icons and files that appeared when I turned it on. I tried turning the computer off and on again, but nothing changed!
What can I do to return to the previous layout?
Configuration: Windows / Chrome 86.0.4240.75

Hello
Your cat is quite the character! I’m surprised it managed to do "ctrl" + "a" + "delete"?!?
Check if your desktop isn’t in extended mode
Windows key + P: Set to: "PC SCREEN ONLY"
Otherwise, you can redo the shortcuts, it’s easy.
If important folders are deleted, check the Windows recycle bin (just in case) and restore them.
Otherwise, there’s a solution:
Chapter: Restore Windows from a restore point
https://www.commentcamarche.net/informatique/windows/147-restaurer-windows-avec-les-points-de-restauration/
but that will erase all files created or modified between today and the date of the restore point.
Useful if the date is recent

Thank you for responding so quickly, but I'm still hesitating... The cat's misdeeds date back to this morning around 10 am, and I haven't created anything between 10 am and now, so it seems relevant to create a restore point, but which option should I choose? I still have my toolbar, but the files and shortcuts from Libre Office have disappeared, I have giant jpeg files, some of which are overlapped... I can't even show you a screenshot.
forget the restore point
did you do that? :
press the "windows key" + the "P" key at the same time: Set to: "PC SCREEN ONLY"
huge jpeg: your cat has increased either the screen resolution or the size of the icons
go to start menu/settings/system/display and change either the screen resolution (set to: recommended), or the scaling (set to: 100%)
screenshot: press the "print screen" key on your keyboard, open the "paint" software, click on the "paste" icon, then save to the desktop
then, use, on this forum, the "insert image" icon (square with a mountain)

Good evening,
My cat had increased the size of the icons, which meant that the screen couldn't contain and display them all. I solved the problem by going to settings/customize/icon size, etc.... In fact, I can't remember the sequence of my clicks (that's often the case when you figure things out a bit by chance, or thanks to exceptional intelligence - ha ha!). Thank you anyway, dear Navibot, for being so present and cooperative!
