Hello,
I just discovered this site and I really need help.
I have a Thomson Lyra EM2601 MP3 player; until yesterday, no problem and then...
When I turn on the MP3, Thomson appears, then please wait...: that's normal, except that after that it gets stuck on that. No matter how many buttons I press, nothing happens. If I connect it to my PC, the screen goes off. I have to press reset and connect it turned off for my PC to recognize it. However, I can't do anything – I can't add or remove music.
Can someone help me; thank you in advance.

Hello,
I also have the same problem as you all with my mp3 Lyra 2601, so I followed your advice; however, when I try to open update device, I get an error message indicating that it is impossible to open the firmware bootmanager.sb file, so the update cannot be completed.
Has this ever happened to you, or do you know what I should do?

Hello,
My daughter had the same problem since mid-August, and I just solved it today... While looking for an answer, I came across this forum to realize that it's quite common but without finding the solution.
When analyzing the circumstances of the problem with her, it turns out she had accidentally kept the "record" button pressed, which resulted in recording an audio file until the disk space was full...
Consequence: not enough disk space = no way to "boot". By the way, it's not very clever on the part of the manufacturer not to foresee leaving enough "disk" space to at least be able to enable the menus and clean things up!
Symptoms: turning on the player with just the Thomson logo followed by "please wait" and, on the other hand, when connected to the PC (WinXP), incomplete recognition with the message "Device I/O error."
Solution: download the firmware update "EM26_V25E_Updater2.zip" from the support site "http://thomson2-selfservice.supporter.fr/standard/framework/affichageConnexion.asp?ins=1&ReturnUrl=http://thomson2-selfservice.supporter.fr/thomson/default.asp" (you need to create a login and password) and then install it (in Program files\Thomson for example).
The installation creates an entry "Thomson digital audio player" in the programs menu with a single submenu "THOMSON EM26 Series" where you select "Update device" after having previously connected the MP3 player to the PC.
When the screen displays, an analysis of the "Firmware" version starts automatically and offers an update to version "000.002.500" (at least in my case) you then need to check the box "Data zone of" (the label is truncated) in the "Loading options" section of the screen which will erase all audio or image files previously loaded onto the player and then click start. It is imperative not to disconnect the player during the reset and firmware update.
A series of messages appear on the MP3 player screen indicating the dialogue with the PC: that's a good sign!
Once the process is completed, disconnect the cable (after having properly "Safely Remove Hardware" of course) and then... miracle... the Lyra starts and speaks: it knows how to say something other than "Wait" and then nothing more. The menus are likely to have switched back to English, you have no files left, but it works!
All that's left is to reload images and sounds... and to be wary of the "Record" button.
Good luck!

A big thank you to Lyra for your help. I was starting to get desperate with this player! I was ready to throw it away because it hasn't been working for a while due to the same problem mentioned by vcm! To download this firmware, the exact link is: http://fr.thomson-europe.com/support/; you just need to specify the model of the player and then download the folder. Then unzip it and install it. Restart and then connect your player until it tells you that the device is operational. There you go, and thanks again to you, Lyra.
Dear Julia,
Initially, I contacted Thomson's customer service, and it was the operator who sent me an email with the actions to take and the clarification that my MP3 was not repairable.
Then I went to the store's after-sales service where I had purchased it with a printout of the received email. They kept it, and I waited about 3 weeks to receive confirmation and a voucher. That’s the information in case it can help you...

Hi,
I have a problem with my Thomson MP3 2802 but unfortunately I can't find the update "EM26_V25E_Updater2.zip" mentioned above because the Thomson support website has changed... :(
Could someone provide it to me directly?
Thank you in advance ;)

Hello,
I am desperately looking for that famous firmware. The Thomson website indicates that their partner has closed down and that there is no more support now... not very professional all of this.
Anyway, if someone could send me this firmware, it would help unlock my son's player...
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I also have the same problem with my MP3 player EM2601...
Since the website www.thomson-lyra.com is no longer accessible, would it be possible for you to send me the firmware file?
Thank you very much.
See you soon,
Nicolas

Hello everyone, for a while now, on my em28 series, I can no longer sync anything, I just get "error" in the WMP player, what should I do according to you?
Hello, I followed your advice and went to udpader, I got the firmware update page, I started the system by checking the data zone, the application launched correctly and bam! Nothing more. The player is in blackout, does not turn on, and is no longer recognized by the computer. The only connection with Windows is the sound emitted when the mp3 is plugged in. I have the zipped version, but I would like to know if you have any other solutions to make it recognized on my workstation so I can reinstall it properly.
Good evening oiseau30
So you have retrieved the zipped file from the link I provided in a previous message.
Did you extract all the files contained in the zipped archive before starting the installation?
I recommend starting from the beginning:
1. download the zipped file from the provided link,
2. extract all the files to a new folder on your hard drive,
3. run "Setup.exe" to start the installation... and follow the instructions given
There’s no reason why it shouldn’t work... unless your MP3 player is really dead...
Don't lose hope
Keep me posted.

Did you correctly download the zipped archive from the link?
Did you properly extract all the files from the archive before installing the update?
If not, please do so in a new directory on your hard drive.
Keep me posted.
