Hello, for the past few days, when I open Mail on my MacBook Pro, the inbox section consists of 2 sub-boxes: Gmail and Google (I had never noticed this before), but next to the "sub-box" Gmail, there is a nearly permanent dark triangle with an exclamation mark. Why? Thank you for any explanation and help.

Configuration: Macintosh / Safari 10.1.2

Hello,

I assume you created two accounts, one of which is misconfigured or incomplete.
Open Mail/menu Mail/preferences/Accounts, what do you see? If you see both accounts, simply select the invalid one and click on the - (minus) sign at the bottom of the window.

Good evening and thank you Dédé for your response and especially your quickness in not leaving me alone, as I am ignorant about many things in this area. I followed your procedure and everything is back to normal (I no longer have the triangles and the !). However, if I open the mail window and then the connection diagnosis, I have a 3rd line titled impq.gmail.com with a comment ...bla..bla...the accuracy of the information...etc.. But everything works despite that, which is probably due to another incompetence on my part. But I don’t see how to delete this thing.
Dédé, a big thank you to you, saying that fortunately there are people like you, and I and many others are undoubtedly lucky for that.
Have a good weekend that has already started well, and if you have a moment you could explain to me about “impq etc...”

A priori, I would say it's a typing error during the setup. It should rather be imap.gmail.com. Check your settings from this Gmail support page...

"Connection diagnostic" simply informs you whether Mail has successfully connected to the various servers that your email accounts depend on and whether the information for your account(s) is correct or incorrect.

PS: And Master Aliboron provides a better explanation ;-)

A aliboron: good evening, I went to the link you indicated, but when it says: go to settings at the top right, I don't see anywhere "settings"??
But thank you for this very quick response as well.

When you are in your browser, logged into your Gmail account, the "Settings" button (gear icon) is indeed at the top right:

That said, this step is not necessarily important, since it has already worked for you (the configuration on the Gmail server should already be in place). It's mainly the next step that will matter, verifying the configuration of your account in Mail...
