Asus Radeon RX 5700 XT power connection?

Hello,

I’m asking myself a question, because sometimes in game… my PC shuts down.

I have a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, 2x8GB RAM, ASUS Radeon RX 5700 XT GPU on a Gigabyte X570 Gaming X motherboard, 850 W 80+ Gold PSU, 250 GB SSD and 1 TB HDD, running Windows 10 Pro.

I connected the GPU (6 and 6 PIN) with an 8 PIN cable that is doubled by another 6+2 PIN connector.

I’m wondering if I should not, add another cable (to VGA2) to power the 6 PIN?

Thanks for your answers.

"I connected the GPU (6 and 6 PIN) with an 8 PIN adapter that is doubled by another 6+2 PIN connector."

We don't really understand what you mean. Perhaps if you tell us the brand and model of your power supply, it would help us understand.

    Hello,
could you provide more info? What do you mean by VGA2?
Your graphics card has one 8-pin connector and another 6-pin
    Power connectors
    1 X PCI Express 6-Pin
    1 X PCI Express 8-Pin

It is clear that the two connectors must be plugged in. Power consumption: 225 W,
    that's huge.
Check that nothing overheats, it’s possible that overheating causes the PC to shut down.

    Hello,

Correction because there is an error in the initial message.
The GPU is indeed in an 8-pin and 6-pin connection.

On my EVGA 850 W 80+ Gold, semi-modular power supply, I have different sockets (3) for the GPUs.

The GPU cables from the power supply are 6+2 pin doubled into 6+2 pin.

My setup was done with a single cable, 6+2 pin for the 8-pin GPU, and the doubled 6-pin for the 6-pin GPU.

My question is whether I should not have connected a second cable to the power supply to connect the 6-pin, instead of using the doubled side of the first cable?

Maybe this wiring causes the GPU to be underpowered and thus overheating...?

Thanks for your answers, have a nice day.

"The GPU power supply pins are 6+2 pin doubled into 6+2 pin".

It’s still not clear. You mean, perhaps, that you have a cable that has 2 PCI-E 8-pin connectors (6+2) pins. If that’s the case, you plug into the 8-pin socket of the GPU the block of 6 pins plus the 2-pin block, and into the 6-pin socket of the GPU you only plug the 6-pin block from the 2nd connector..

      That’s exactly what I did ...

Does that mean it doesn’t change anything if I connect the PSU with 2 separate connectors (one 8-pin and one 6-pin)?

In principle, there shouldn’t be a problem. Is your PC displaying?

The PC works, but I sometimes get crashes (the PC shuts down) in the middle of a game, Forza Horizon 4 for example. That's why I wonder if the GPU is being underpowered.

Also in FH4, I have some white lines on the screen at 2560*1080 resolution (21/9 Ultrawide monitor)

      I find that strange ...

In that case, try a second cable on another outlet. You’ll see if you still have the same problems or not.
