Hello,
I'm thinking of getting myself a Dell laptop. Is this graphics card:
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 any good??
I'm just a casual gamer, but I don't want to buy a graphics card that can't keep up.
So if you could give me answers, either through links, personal experience, or even by comparing it to what Nvidia offers (my brother has an 8600 M-GS).
Thanks everyone.
PS: This is my first post, sorry if I’m doing it wrong :)

Well, let's say I play Unreal Tournament III on high with my P4 Core 2 processor at 2.6GHz and my 2GB of RAM ;)
Moreover, it's also more than enough to watch movies in HD, even if it's not the best card on the market ;)
However, it's obvious that there's a difference in performance between laptops and desktop PCs.

Hi,
I have a Radeon HD 3650 with 512MB of VRAM (there's also a 256MB version) in my desktop PC and it's performing quite well ;)
You can play games with it as well as run a home theater. Of course, the rest of the hardware needs to keep up (CPU, RAM, etc.)

Hello, I'm begging you, help me, I bought a Radeon 3650 HD just like you and it's not working! At first, I thought the card was broken or defective, so I ordered another one but it's STILL the same problem. The problem is this: when I open a game, any game, there are squares and colors everywhere on the screen. The game works but it's almost impossible to see, squares of all colors everywhere, colored bars, it's weird. My computer is a Pentium 4, 75GB hard drive with Windows XP Home 2002, with 2 RAM sticks (1500 RAM total). I don't understand, even the manufacturer couldn't help me. I'm begging you, help me. Do you also have XP? Have you ever had problems? Thank you. Write back to me at my email.
I also have problems with this card: ATI Radeon Mobility 3650 HD (hypermemory) which, after less than 2 years of use, the module that manages the main display fails.
Diagnostics done because if I connect a second screen and set it as the main, it fails on that external screen (so it's not the screen's fault).
Since buying a new one costs 200€, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to buy another PC and sell mine repaired... otherwise everything works fine. Like any PC, it overheats when running at full capacity, but its dual-core at 2GHz L2 cache, and its 4GB of RAM with a 320GB HDD, you wouldn't think it's almost 2 years old. Even today it has the configuration of a mid-range PC sold for 500€.
Message me if interested. Without repaired card: 300€ with repaired card 500€.

Here are the most commonly integrated ATI graphic chipsets in mid-range laptops, along with their ranking according to https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html:
1) ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 (69th position)
2) ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (71st position)
3) ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 (85th position)
They are all above average (the ranking is out of 204) with dedicated memory of 512MB, which is quite adequate (with the possibility of sharing a bit of additional memory).
They provide good graphics as well as good fluidity in general.

Yes, a little bit of everything:
_ watching HD movies why not?! (like HD manga One Piece for example)
_ not really playing much or to relax, so something like Quake 4, Lord of the Rings, Half-Life 2...
_ video editing too but nothing too serious...
I don't think I need ultra high-performance gear, but something good.
I think that's the most common problem for many, and I admit I'm a bit lost ^^
Spartiax, aren't you being a bit too categorical??
"Impossible to play"

So your machine will be more than enough ;)

Thank you for your responses, you have reinforced my ideas.
The games of yesterday are fine but not the games of tomorrow ;)
Thanks again :)

I just acquired an Asus laptop, the X50SL configuration:
Cpu=>Core 2 Duo T5450 2Mb@ 1.66 Ghz
Gpu=>HD3470 256Mb
Ram=>3Gb DDR2 667
Hdd=>250 GB
Provided with Vista, I put XP on it, drivers found on the Asus direct site.
The HD 3470 allows me to play Gears Of War (Unreal 3 engine) at up to 1024*768 with all the details on medium or similar; increasing the resolution makes the game not very smooth at 1280*800.
In response to Spartiax, who I think is too categorical, this card would indeed allow you to play recent games, but not with everything turned up to max at crazy resolutions.
In fact, I think that for Spartiax, playing with anything other than high-end hardware and all options on Very High is simply inconceivable in his mind, so impossible XD.
What annoys me is that without valid arguments, he posts (trolls)
There you go, I hope this can help someone.

Yes, I'm quite realistic about it.
Is this configuration worth it for around 800 €? Plus, it's from Dell, so it's from a reputable brand!

Anyway, a laptop is not made for gaming except for the high-end ones like Alienware and the like. That said, the HD3650 is a very good card.

A question that may seem a bit silly (I’m thinking of buying a PC with a similar configuration, actually the one at the top), will Windows Vista run "instantly" with this graphics card (the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 with 256 MB)? (a salesperson hinted otherwise)
What do you call that instantly? Because no PC to my knowledge displays Vista after just 1 second of startup, it's impossible

Hi, I had a 3650 with 512 on a desktop for 2 weeks (I bought it to tide me over while waiting for the return of my 8800 GTS) and honestly, with my setup of a 3700+, 1.5GB of RAM, this 3650 ran WoW at full settings without issues, and Crysis on medium everywhere except for textures set to high (even if some textures became blurry). After 2 weeks of testing, it got a bit hot and WoW started to bug out (pixel leaks, interface flickering...). Overall, this card can be nice but it definitely won't have a long lifespan under full load. On a laptop, Fear at minimum detail shows 150 fps and at maximum 22 fps for Doom 3 (viable also for Quake 4 I think) around 75 fps at maximum details. 3410 points on 3D Mark 2006 (source: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html)
Hi, I just bought the new MSI GX 720 with a 9600GT and an overclockable processor (well, that’s what MSI says, but it works pretty well). I think with that, you'll be able to run Crysis or something else without being too demanding on the resolution. PS: I just came from an Acer that was great for multimedia but a disaster for gaming, as the processors and graphics cards are never really powerful unless you spend 1500€. So my advice is to buy games that are already 6 months old and cheaper that will run well. From my experience, what's coming out now for laptops is already almost too demanding! If you want a laptop and want to be comfortable for gaming, you have the Toshiba Qosmio or the Asus G70, but there it’s at least 2000 euros. So to summarize, either you stick to your budget and play older games; a good game is still a good game even if it’s old, and the rest will run fine, or you go see your banker or your dear mom to ask for a loan for thirty years just to get a gaming laptop, or you get a gaming desktop, and with your budget including a monitor, you’ll get the equivalent of a 2000 euro laptop that runs great and is upgradeable too. It's up to you.
I don't recommend this graphics card. I have a laptop with an ATI Radeon HD 3650, and when I play Bad Company 2, the game doesn't work, so it's better for you to buy a desktop PC. Cheaper and much more powerful!! See you!
I know, this PC is just for Far Cry 2; otherwise, I have another desktop that rocks, with an AMD 3.40GHz and an ATI 5750 for BC2 and COD6.
Honestly, I have an ATI Mobility HD 4530 512 graphics card and I can tell you that it's not great for gaming. One piece of advice: if you want to play, for example, COD Black Ops, you can have a 2GHz processor and it will work just fine as long as you have a graphics card like the GeForce GTX 460 1GB, because in video, games, etc., the graphics card provides you with over 80% of the power, while the CPU only provides 20%. So for gaming, it all depends on the graphics card. Pay more for a graphics card than for a CPU.
I have considered this configuration:
Base
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5750 processor (2 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)
Memory
3072 MB of dual-channel SDRAM DDR2 667 MHz [1x2048+1x1024]
Graphics card
ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3650 graphics card with 256 MB
Hard drive
320 GB SATA hard drive (5400 RPM)

Hi
Yes, but what do you plan to do with your gear? For simple things (browsing, video editing, watching an HD movie, etc................)

No, the video editing doesn't work on this piece of crap with 512 MB mode.
It works until halfway through the edit and then everything crashes, telling me there’s insufficient memory for the GPU. Drivers from 07/2009. Nothing better, nothing more up-to-date.
Editing uses more resources than the useless passivity of gaming. I wonder where you find the time in 24 hours a day to play or watch TV. There’s so much to do, I have no time for anything with my night edits and day job... I don’t understand you.

I'm on the verge of buying a laptop with the same specs...
The only thing is, the ATI 3650 Graphics (but mine has 512MB dedicated) worries me a bit, it's not talked about much and it doesn't seem top-notch...
And then, the T5750 also seems like a basic processor to me...
Is it worth it for €1000? Or do we have to spend €900 more for the T9300 and the GF9650m?
