Money 2004 (14) - Ghost Operation

Hello everyone,

For the past few weeks, I've noticed some ghost transactions appearing in my Money 2.

Why ghosts? Because they are visible in "Cash Flow Forecast" but not in the account ledger section. After checking the balances daily, I finally found them, and there are two. So obviously, the final balances are different between these two screens in Money

When I try to delete or edit them in "Cash Flow Forecast," the delete option as well as the "account," "date," and "amount" fields are grayed out. I cannot get rid of them. I thought about creating a fake transaction with an opposing amount to cancel them out, but if I do that, my transaction logically also appears in the account ledger, and it's that ledger that has an incorrect balance.

I tried repairing the file, but it didn't change anything. I attempted to archive as much as possible (my file went back to 2010) and then repair again, but it still didn't change anything.

Do you have any other ideas on how to fix this?
Thank you in advance.

Hello;

Do you have a backup from a time when you didn't have this bug?
If so, the best solution would be to completely uninstall MsMoney cleanly, then reinstall it... then restart MsMoney using this backup.

Good evening,
Thank you for this response.
So no, no recent backup (not great, I know) and I think it would be more of a workaround than a real solution.

That's why I keep hoping that someone has already experienced the same thing and managed to find a way out because that would be a solution available if it happens again.

In the worst case, I'll keep my file as it is and start over with a clean file as of 01/01, but even that, in principle, would be escaping the problem.

Anyway, thank you for your help :)

Hello;

It wasn't to bypass the problem, but in 95% of cases, uninstalling and then reinstalling MsMoney resolves its issues... I know MsMoney quite well, which is getting a bit old and hasn't had an update in a good decade..
How do you make transactions? >> Manually or from your online bank?

If there are no other solutions, it's true that a fresh start on 01/01/2019 would be a good method after archiving everything.... Reinstall MsMoney and then test to see if everything is fine after...

Hello,

I understood the method well. But when I said "to circumvent the problem," I meant not to correct the file...

To answer your question, I do some movements manually, it's rare. They are mainly planned movements in the schedules (and therefore inserted in the ledger at the appropriate time) and others imported from online banking to be, depending on the operations, merged with those resulting from the schedules.

For your information (I think it's important information), the two so-called phantom movements both come from the schedule and appeared on future dates even before the bank import. (One in next January, the other in last November)
An example, annual insurance contribution movement, every early January. I noticed that in the schedule I only had one, which is normal. However, in the cash forecasting for January 2019, I have 2. One of which is impossible to modify or delete. If I modify the one in the schedule, it's the one that is editable in the cash forecast that gets modified. No way to act on the other one....

And once the date has passed, it is still taken into account in the cash management module which shows, for today's date, an erroneous balance because it takes into account this operation that exists only for it

I believe I read that money files were based on Excel. Is this true? Is there any way to edit them outside of Money?

Thanks for your expert feedback :)

Hello;

Unfortunately, I don’t have all the answers to your questions… because if it was working very well a few weeks ago… why not today?
Since Windows 10 has frequent updates, it is possible that MsMoney is affected by this as it no longer receives updates…

The best solution is the one you are considering >> Archive the current year and install a new version to see if everything is back in order…

Below is an interesting link regarding an MsMoney FAQ

Hello,

I've made some progress

When I export the account with the error, the transaction is indeed present in the exported QIF file.
It seems that the account book is ignoring this transaction as it does not appear in the account book or in the search...

To be continued

Hello,

I have exactly the same problem: in fact, the transactions from 01/01/2019 are recorded but not displayed in the account book of my current account (bank type).
I do not have this issue with cash or asset accounts, and the problem persists if I change the type from "bank" to "asset" in my current account settings or if I create a new bank account.
As a last resort, I will try reinstalling the software, but I highly doubt that it will resolve this issue, which seems more like a bug or a hardcoded date limit in the code.
In any case, there are only three days left to find a solution!

Against all odds, the uninstallation-reinstallation of Money2005 solved the problem: I won't have to change accounting software.

Hello;

Knowing MsMoney well enough and as stated multiple times (here) ...a simple clean and complete uninstallation resolves 95% of the bugs encountered by MsMoney over time because it is no longer updated and is dependent on the successive updates of Windows ....
Best regards

Hello,

I tried to uninstall and reinstall Money (from the backup I had kept as well as from the CCM link) and when I attempt to open my mny file, it asks me to convert it.
Once the conversion steps are completed, it tells me that it cannot open the file (not found or read-only...) and I'm stuck at this stage.

Do you have any idea?
Thank you.

Well, I managed to reinstall the latest patches and therefore found my Money file.

The reported bug is still present with the only difference being that it tells me the account book is incorrect and that it will attempt to repair it on the next launch. But if I relaunch it, nothing changes.
