Hello,
I am using Windows 10 and I am using Money 99.
For a few days now, I can no longer use the menus: File, Edit, Go To, Favorites, Tools, and ?
When I click on one of the 6 menus, Money stops responding and I have to use Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
Thank you for your invaluable help.
Sincerely.

Hello;

Do you have a recent and valid backup and if so, on what medium?
Where does this Money 99 come from >> installation CD or others?
See you later

Good evening Jmarion3,
I do have a valid backup on a USB drive.
Money was installed using the CD.
In fact, I encountered the problem suddenly, and I reinstalled the program thinking it would solve the issue.
The installation went well, but when I tried to change the options, Money crashed.

Hello relhu;

I suggest you do as indicated below because in 90% of cases, a simple clean and complete uninstallation of Money fixes its errors, provided you have a valid backup on hand.
For your information, the latest version of MsMoney 2005 is compatible with all older versions (example No. 1 & No. 2) (Info)

Uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft MsMoney

1-Make sure that the latest backup is up to date and valid: If so, copy this backup to a removable storage device (USB key-CD/RW or External HDD)

2-Completely uninstall MsMoney using Revo Uninstaller, which can be downloaded at >> This link
Launch this tool, search for Microsoft MsMoney and uninstall it

3-Open hidden files in Windows / If problems >> See This link
then navigate to C:\User(Name of the user)\AppData\local\Microsoft >> Look for Money and delete it

4-Open the registry using the command Regedit (by clicking on the Windows icon at the bottom left and typing regedit to open it (see the top of the window))
Open the key Hkey_Current_User then search for Software >> Microsoft >> Money > To delete
Open the key Hkey_Local_Machine and do the same operation (If Money is present but usually not!)

5-Restart the machine

6-Reinstall MsMoney version 2005 using the available update patch (or reinstallation) at >> This link
then carry out the installation by following the procedure from the link above

7-Launch MsMoney from the backup made in 1- and everything should be back to normal

For security reasons >> Always make a backup of MsMoney on a removable storage device (External hard drive - USB key or CD/RW)
You need to configure your backup by taking the model from the screenshots in the download patch link according to the backup destination (Example made for a backup on CD/RW)

If problems >> Come back to the Forum

A+ For your upcoming comments, but if none or OK >> Resolved

Sincerely

Hello. First of all, thank you again for your help.
However, after following your instructions closely, it still doesn't work.
On one hand, apparently, Money 2005 does not support the saving of a Money 99. Once Money 2005 is installed and after clicking on the USB key backup, Money 2005 "crashes".
On the other hand, after deleting everything from the PC and reinstalling version 99 with the installation CD, there is still no result. I still can't access the menus.
Thank you for your response.
Best regards.

Hello relhu;

Thank you for the feedback;
As mentioned in the 2 links provided in my response above, I confirm that MsMony is compatible with older versions including 97 and 99!
Before attempting to recover your backup from the USB drive, have you tested MsMoney 2005, meaning opening the tabs, etc?...
What is the exact reference of this Money 99 (check on its installation CD)
In my opinion, there are 2 hypotheses: either Windows 10 has an issue if MsMoney 2005 doesn't launch or if the toolbar tabs aren't working, or there are problems with the backup or the USB drive??
When you install MsMoney 2005 >> Does the installation go smoothly or ???
Edit >> Question: Is Windows update up to date and check if Microsoft.Net Framework 3.5 or higher is properly installed?

See you soon

Best regards

Hello,
Thank you as well for the feedback.
I completely uninstalled Money99 again, as before, and installed Money2005. The installation went very well, no error messages. After testing the menus and some trials, everything works perfectly.

I have no reference on the Money99 CD.

I backup the Money99 files on 3 different media (2.5" external HDD, USB drive & partitioned internal HDD).

After checking, Windows Update is now up to date.

However, I cannot install Microsoft.Net Framework 3.5.

Could this be the problem?

See you later.

Hello;

Have you tried using >> This link? Otherwise, it may already be installed or there might be a newer version >> Check via the control panel >> Programs and Features >> Look to the right to Turn Windows features on or off... is it present or not?

If MsMoney 2005 seems to work well after installation (tabs...) it might be that your backup is unfortunately corrupted or ??
Is the username on your PC the same as when you made your last backup on the external drive? If different, MsMoney won't recognize it!

See you later

Good evening,
Indeed, it was already present on the PC (Thank you for the insertion above...)
I'm not sure if the name has anything to do with it, since it was working perfectly fine without me doing anything.
The backup on my USB stick or on the hard drive is well detected since Money99 opens it correctly...
See you!

Hello relhu;

If I may repeat myself, what exactly is happening?
If MsMoney is properly installed >> All tabs open etc.....
If you are sure that your backups are okay and valid.....
If the Framework is installed....
When you want to open MsMoney 2005 via your USB key >> Open with >>> Microsoft Money ... >> What happens at that moment?? >> Message or something else???

One thing I don't quite understand is that >>
The backup on my USB key or on the hard drive is well detected since Money99 opens it well...
>> Why Money 99 and not 2005, and why does Money open it well and then what do you exactly observe?? (Money recognizes the backup so you should see your accounts and then??
In your opinion, what happened between the time when Windows 10 and Money were working fine and today?? Windows updates, viruses or something else??? >> What is the exact version of Windows 10 installed (the latest updated version being 1703 (15063.502) (Type Winver in the search bar at the bottom left)

I suggest you try doing this to test MsMoney 2005 installed
1-Create a "dummy" account with about ten credits and debits etc...
2-Make a backup on the USB key
3-Relaunch MsMoney via this backup and see if MsMoney 2005 launches correctly and recognizes this last backup and possibly add operations and make a backup again...... >> Please communicate the result

See you

Best regards

Hello,
When I installed Money 2005, everything went well (installation and operation...)
I even created 2 dummy accounts and wrote in the journal. Everything was OK.
When I retrieved my backup from an external hard drive, through the operation => file =>
Restore a backup copy, well Money 2005, after processing the backup (it asks me for the password) "crashes" ("Microsoft Money is not responding" CLOSE or WAIT FOR THE PROGRAM TO RESPOND. Just before crashing, Money 2005 tells me that "Money no longer supports custom currencies. Please choose a currency from the list to replace your custom currency Canadian Dollar"

I'm not really sure, anyway, I don't remember if there were any updates between the time it was working and now.

I ran the Windows Defender antivirus and nothing.

The version of Windows is good (the latest update being version 1703 (15063.502).

I tried several times with Money 2005 over 2 consecutive days and everything works perfectly.

So, I tried again with my backup and it crashed again.

See you later

(And I'm really sorry to bother you with my problem...)

Hello relhu:

When I installed Money2005, everything went well (installation and operation...)
I even created 2 dummy accounts and wrote in the journal. Everything was OK
>> This means that MsMoney 2005 works?

When I retrieved my backup, from an external HDD, by the operation => file =>
Restore a backup copy, well Money 2005, after taking over the backup (it asks me for the password)
>> To open a backup from an external drive, you need to point to the backup file >> Open with >> Microsoft Money
If MsMoney asks for a password, it's the one set by the user during the installation of MsMoney

Just before crashing, Money 2005 informs me that "Money no longer supports custom currencies. Please choose a currency from the list to replace your custom Canadian Dollar"
>> Where are you located geographically

This is not a virus but an external drive problem in my opinion
I suggest you make another backup on a USB stick by configuring MsMoney as indicated on >> This link and then restart MsMoney 2005 via the backup located on the USB stick

Edit >> You are not bothering me at all

See you

Hello,
Indeed, Money 2005 works perfectly well.

I followed your instructions to launch the backup and the result is still the same... crash.

I am in France, but I created, in version 99, cash accounts for the different countries I visited.

I'm trying to make another backup and I'll keep you posted.

Thank you for your help and availability.

Talk soon.

Hello;

1-The problem therefore does not come from MsMoney 2005!
2-For currencies, if they are assigned to a specific account and unrelated to another account with the same number, I don't think that poses a problem, but I have never tried it personally
3-If after trying to make a backup on a USB stick temporarily reserved for testing and if the issue persists, personally, I would try using the same currency across all Euro account numbers preferably

See you later

Indeed, the problem does not come from Money 2005
I tried for the currencies, but nothing works...
It only asks me for the Canadian dollar, (I think it's the first one in the list of cash accounts I created...)
Then it crashes...
I'm desperate... LOL

Hello ;

I did a test at home by setting up an account in Canadian Dollars and there were no issues with saving and restoring, so that's good on that front.

If MsMoney 2005 works well, and you can back it up on a USB stick and see this backup on that stick but cannot open MsMoney due to a problem I can't figure out!
How is the backup configured when you exit MsMoney?
It should be configured as in the screenshot below (the F: drive being my USB port)

A+

Sincerely

Hello;

Do you have a CD/RW (rewritable) on hand? So we can try to make a backup on it instead of a USB key or external hard drive.

We're going to try to make a backup on a CD/RW instead of a USB to check if ... just in case ....
For this, you need to reconfigure the output of MsMoney so that it burns this backup to the CD/RW (you should have a burner on your machine?)
You need to set it up like this
1-Open the hidden files of Windows
2-Launch MsMoney 2005
3-When closing >> do not respond yes but Browse
4-Indicate the following path by browsing through your folders and files ......
C:\Users\Your user name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Burn\Burn\Backup MsMoney 2005
For your information, you need to put Burn twice to tell Windows to burn to the CD/RW
After the second Burn, you put the name you want to give to your backup
See the screenshots below

See you

Best regards

Should I make a backup with Money2005? Because my backup is from Money99. (Since I can't open it with 2005?
Am I clear or not?
If I have to make a backup on a CD with Money99, I have "Burn" only once, not twice.)

Good evening relhu;

Actually, I’m not quite sure what’s installed on your machine, Money 99 or MsMoney 2005, but you can do it on both, knowing that the first backup will be overwritten by the second, so ideally you should have 2 CD/RWs for each Money.

I forgot to tell you that the 2nd burn needs to be entered manually because it’s to give the 'order' to Windows to burn to the CD/RW >> You wait a little while, 1 or 2 minutes, and you should get a message saying that you have documents to burn.

I only have Money99 that works with my backup.
When I execute the operation above, I don't have the option to write the backup line; I can only navigate through the existing directories. I can't add the second burn.
I tried to save in the first burn directory only, and it doesn't work.
Our story isn't simple...

Hello relhu;

You can manually add the 2nd burn with the 2 \\ at the end of Money by going to the backup path line (without clicking on Option)
See screenshot image below

To manually add the \Burn\ you can do it with the mouse or the arrow keys by moving on the line

Edit >> A question I just thought of >> Was Money 99 part of a Microsoft Works suite or a stand-alone CD containing this Money 99?

See you later

Hello jmarion3,
I still haven't found a solution to my problem.
To answer your last question, it's a single CD containing only Money 99.
Thanks again for your help.
Talk to you later.
