Hello,

This morning I just did a big clean-up with Ccleaner after not using it for a long time. It was mainly to remove a lingering windows.old from my system SSD. But here's the problem: today it won't boot up anymore.
Right after the "clean," World of Warcraft wouldn't launch, saying that 3D acceleration couldn't start. So I tried a reboot, and it's stuck on the Windows boot screen, spinning indefinitely.

I don't know if you have a solution, but I'm all ears!
About my system:
Windows 10
NVidia GTX 1070 (up to date)
i5 3570k
(...)

Thanks for your help!

EDIT: Windows apparently starts, but with a startup screen on top that won't go away; in fact, I was able to adjust the sound with the mouse (it's visible) and hear audio feedback.

So it seems to start up just fine, but isn't displaying correctly!

Hello,

The joys of Windows cleaners...

Try this:

Boot into the advanced system recovery options using method 1 on this page: Windows advanced recovery options.
The idea is to restart at the page where it asks for the password, with the icon at the bottom right while holding the shift key.

If you CANNOT get to the window where Windows asks for passwords, due to a blockage or crash beforehand...
Turn off the computer twice during the Windows loading.
It will enter repair mode, which will also give access to the advanced system recovery options.
(If booting into the advanced recovery options is impossible, you need to create a USB drive to boot from, there is a link on the previous page for that).

From there, you can then try:
- launching a system restore to revert to a previous Windows configuration
- From the settings menu, restart Windows and go into safe mode, from there you can uninstall an application that is causing issues, such as your antivirus
- Reset Windows 10 (this keeps your data but removes applications).

Please press a key to continue the disinfection...

First of all, thank you for your response!

I decided to reinstall Windows, that way at least I’ll have a completely clean system, and it’s not that inconvenient for me in the end.

But I will still describe what I have managed (or rather not managed) to do:
I was able to start in safe mode blind (it was quite laborious), and it worked, so I used a registry backup, but then I unfortunately didn’t have a Windows restore point. I tried to repair the boot program with the Windows tool, but that didn’t work.
Later I created a bootable USB drive with W10 on it, and I once again attempted to repair W10, but without success.

I am therefore reinstalling Windows, but I thank you for your advice, and I hope it can guide someone who might come across this topic!

Best regards,
Julien

Great =)

Once you have reinstalled everything and everything is working,

I invite you to create a system image now that you have a stable Windows.
=> How to create a Windows system image
This system image can be restored at any time, including Windows, updates, and installed programs.
Very handy for getting Windows back easily when everything is crashed.

So if you need to reinstall Windows, you can restore your image, which avoids having to redo all the tedious updates, reinstalling applications, and software.

Thank you very much! I'm indeed reinstalling all the software right now :)

I will do as you said, thank you for your help :)

EDIT: Does it work even when we have multiple drives? With software installed on one drive that looks for information on another, for example?
