Startup Issue After Incorrect CCleaner Handling...

Hello everyone,

I have a little issue with my PC... Last night I wanted to try the trial version of Ccleaner Pro and I performed a much deeper cleanup than usual (33GB of data...). Something I probably shouldn't have done because this morning at startup after the LENOVO logo, I got a black screen with the classic Windows 10 white spinning circle (the 5 white dots in a circle), and it doesn't go any further.
I do have access to safe mode.

Here's an image of what I modified on Ccleaner: https://www.noelshack.com/2017-24-7-1497804263-capture.png

Here’s what I’ve tried to do!

- Drivers and updates are up to date
- Resetting (formatting) the PC is impossible, it tells me "Encountered a problem, unable to reset the PC."
- I downloaded the MediaCreationTool from Microsoft to reinstall Windows 10 and got the same "problem encountered, unable to install Windows 10."
- Unable to perform a restore because "system protection is turned off" and unable to activate it because it is "only available on an online operating system."
- I managed to find the Windows .ISO file on Microsoft’s site, so I might be able to use it for recovery from an external hard drive.

If you have any ideas, I'm all ears :/

Thanks to you!!

Hello,

All these cleaners are useless except for causing problems.

1°)

Boot into the advanced system recovery options using method 1 from this page: Windows Advanced Recovery Options.
The principle is to restart on the page where you're asked for the password, with the icon at the bottom right while holding the shift key.

If you do NOT reach the window where Windows asks for the passwords, due to a block or crash beforehand...
Turn off the computer twice during the Windows loading.
It will enter repair mode, which will also give access to the advanced system recovery options.
(If booting into the advanced recovery options is impossible, you need to create a boot USB, there's a link on the previous page for that).

From there, you can try to initiate a system restore, taking a date when everything was working.
If system restore is not possible, initiate a Windows reset; applications will be removed but user data will not be affected.

If restore or reset is not possible

2°)

From another computer:
- Download the installation ISO of Windows 10: https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/
/fr-fr/software-download/windows10
- Prepare an installation media on USB stick or DVD. It's better to use Rufus: how to download Rufus - see this tutorial for details: how to create a Windows installation USB stick

On the "sick" computer:
- Boot from it by modifying the boot sequence and specify the USB stick or DVD: How to boot the computer from USB stick
- Go to Repair your computer
- Advanced options
and reset Windows.

If it blocks or is impossible.
Restart again from the USB stick or DVD.

Go to install Windows and follow the prompts to reinstall Windows.
- Follow the prompts to install Windows 10.
- Proceed with the installation on this partition. Select the system partition.
The installer will tell you that Windows is already present and offers to move it.
Do not format it.

Your user data will be copied into a sub-folder of https://www.malekal.com/le-dossier-windows-old/.

Sure, thank you very much for your response!

Indeed, in my case, I'm going straight to your second point...
I’ll do all that and keep you posted!

P.S: Don't you ever clean your PC with the basic CCleaner sometimes?

Not only with the Windows cleaner, once every thousand years.
Sometimes, I clear the internet browser cache.

I normally set up my USB flash drive correctly with Rufus, but I can't access the Boot Menu (F12 normally with LENOVO) and I can't access the BIOS to boot from the USB flash drive..

So I finally succeeded by changing the USB drive partition!
By doing "Repair the computer," it still didn't work, so I reinstalled Windows 10! And I will recover the Windows.old files.

Thanks again for your very detailed response!
And for your very well-provided website!
(I’m going to read everything about what to do and not to install on your PC...)

Best of luck!

Hello, I'm very interested because I have the same problem. I used the advanced option of CCleaner and the symptoms are the same. The first point didn't work either. For the second, I was wondering if I should download Win 8.1 or 10 since I did the free upgrade?

Point 2 works very well with a USB key that you configure with Rufus!
10 will work on your computer if you had it before, I even think if you had the free update.
