My PC shows nothing

Hello,

I have a problem with my PC that I just finished assembling, there is no signal image

I have already tried several manipulations:

BIOS reset (Clear CMOS).

Boot with a single RAM stick, then swapping slots.

Check that all power cables (motherboard, CPU, and graphics card) are properly connected.

Check that all components are properly installed.

Several reboots.

Test with different graphics card ports and check the video cable.

Despite all these manipulations, the problem remains.

The problem is as follows: All fans spin, USB ports work but the PC does not complete its POST

Configuration:

Processor: i7 4770

Motherboard: MSI h81m-p32

Graphics card: MSI GTX 1060

RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) of SQP

Power supply: Antec HCG-520

SSD: MX500 from Crucial 500GB

If someone has an idea of the origin of the problem or additional tests to perform, I’m all ears.

      Install a Windows 10 or 11 version of your choice and see what happens next.

      Hello,

      In principle, when you build your own PC, it means you have the skill to do it and you obviously know that it won’t boot without an operating system.

      We cannot rule out a faulty assembly, but in any case, even if that’s not the case, a PC without an operating system will crash at the BIOS or display an error message.

      You need to create an installation USB key on another PC and of course obtain a license, which can be found at a low cost online.

      Possibly without your graphics card.

        Even without the system, your PC should display either the BIOS or the No boot device message, etc...

        The problem remains hardware-related with an older motherboard BIOS for the processor, since some motherboards do not properly recognise Haswell Refresh and even though the i7-4760K should normally be compatible.

        Also, the graphics card can prevent POST even if the fans spin; a defective GTX 1060 can block startup.

        The RAM too, same problem, not recognised either.

        Did you assemble it with used or new components?

    Your graphics card is external to the motherboard. To verify that the problem isn’t caused by it, it is better to remove it first and connect your monitor to the motherboard’s video output.

    Then, start the PC and check if you get at least the BIOS display. If so, you can install your operating system (Windows 10 or 11) via a bootable USB drive.

    Once the installation is complete, reinstall your graphics card and install its drivers.

    During the next boot, you can enter the BIOS (UEFI) and verify that the integrated graphics card (iGPU) is set to Auto, which is the normal behavior: the dedicated graphics card will be used by default.

    Hello,

    For a first-time PC build, it is recommended to do this with someone who already has experience; there is no shame to have, unlike the common web belief that it’s like Lego. In reality, there are other factors that can derail someone who isn’t used to it.

    The best approach is to know how to install an operating system and start by making modifications on an old PC that you already own and that works, to warm up your skills before moving on to the next level: building a complete PC.
