Hello,
Following a reinstallation of Money 2005, my personal account file is no longer accessible. I have tried all the actions discussed in another conversation related to this issue without success for me.
(complete uninstallation, then installation of the latest Money update)
Thank you for your help, I don’t know what to do to recover my account file.
Sincerely

Hello Nico44470;
I remember the message you posted on 01/12/2016 where I suggested you post a personalized message like today’s
Questions
0-What is your operating system and where did the Money installed come from and which version >> Microsoft CD or integrated in a suite?? Works for example??
1-Can you confirm that your last backup is indeed valid if not, it’s normal that MsMoney does not recognize it
2-You write that you followed the instructions from the link where you had already posted but without result
3-I suggest we go through all this together step by step if that's okay
See you later for your comments
Regards

Hello JMarion
Indeed, I followed your advice and reiterated my request in a new post.
I am not currently on my personal PC, but I will be this evening and I will post all the information you requested.
I am okay to follow your advice.
See you this evening if possible. -
Good evening, indeed I did not have access to all the requested information.
Here it is:
Operating system: Windows 10 Home
Regarding the money, it's a download:
Here is the information:
Microsoft Money Financial Suite
Version 14.0.120.805 Copyright C 2004 Microsoft Corporation
My Money file is valid, it was working before uninstallation, it is 16MB. -
Hello Nico44470.
If you have Windows 10, I think the fact that MsMoney isn't working is due to a small modification to be made in your registry by following >> This link which was incidentally indicated on the download link for MsMoney 2005 on CCM.
See you! For your comments and to confirm that everything is back in order?

Good evening jmarion3,
I just went through the entire procedure to uninstall and then reinstall Money. I made sure to modify the version of IE in the registry as you indicated above. Initially, I received the following message:
"Unable to initialize the required Money component. Please proceed with a new installation from the diskettes, CD-ROM...
Then below, the following message:
Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Money 2005\MNYCOREFiles\checksku.exe'. Check that you have entered the correct name and try again.
And when I click OK, Money closes. -
Hello Nico44470;
Question >> Where did your version of Money come from >> Microsoft CD or included in an office suite like Works???
There's something I'm not getting because if MsMoney is properly uninstalled, then there should be no trace left and a new installation should allow MsMoney to work
I suggest you redo a complete uninstallation by strictly following the steps below
1-Make sure the last backup is up to date and valid: If so, make a copy of this backup on a removable storage device (USB stick-CD/RW or External HDD)
2- Completely uninstall MsMoney using Revo Uninstaller to download from >> This link
Launch this tool, search for Microsoft MsMoney and uninstall it
3-Open hidden files in Windows / If problems >> See This link
then navigate to the path C:\User(Name of the user)\AppData\local\Microsoft >> Look for Money and delete it
4-Open the registry with the Regedit command (by clicking on the Windows icon in the bottom left and typing regedit and opening it (see at the top of the window))
Open the Hkey_Current_User key then look for Software >> Microsoft >> Money >> To delete
Open the Hkey_Local_Machine key and do the same operation (If Money is present but it shouldn't be!)
5-Restart the machine
6-Reinstall MsMoney version 2005 using the update patch (or reinstallation) available at >> This link
then proceed with its installation following the procedure from the above link
(The patch installation must be done in Windows XP compatibility mode if issues with Windows 7-8 or 10)
7- Relaunch MsMoney from the backup made in 1- and everything should be back to normal
For security reasons >> Always make a backup of MsMoney on a removable device (External hard drive - USB stick or CD/RW)
You need to configure your backup following the screenshot models from the patch download link according to the backup destination (Example done for a backup on CD/RW)
If problems >> Return to the Forum
A+ for the result
Best regards

Hello JMarion3,
I just went through the complete procedure for the second time. I haven't achieved better results; I still get the two messages that appear when I launch my account file.
I believe everything has been uninstalled properly, as my file no longer has the money software logo as its icon.
Initially, my version of money was installed on my PC, but when I changed PCs, I downloaded a version which is the one I mentioned earlier.
It was working perfectly until my reinstallation.
Thank you again for your invaluable help because I'm at a loss about what to do now! -
Hello Nico44470 ;
You write "Initially, my version of Money was installed on my PC, but when I changed PCs, I downloaded a version which is the one I provided you above" >> If I understand correctly, you bought the PC with Money already installed??
Then you changed your PC and reinstalled Money, and did this new installation of Money work like it did on the old PC??
Talk to you later about your comments

Hello JMarion3,
Indeed, that is what happened. I had a version of Money, and when I changed PCs, I reinstalled Money.
I have been using this version of Money for over 2 years without any issues.
However, when I switched to Windows 10, I no longer had any sound while using Money.
After reinstalling, I can no longer open my account file.
Thanks again for your help.
See you later,
Nico -
Hello Nico44470 ;
If this is what you confirm and unless I'm mistaken, that means the Money version you had on your old Windows machine ??? is not compatible with the current version and that is likely the reason MsMoney 2005 does not recognize your backup
Do you still have (if I understood correctly >> Money included in certainly the Works Office suite) a CD of the Works suite including Money (I doubt it ??)
"I have been using this version of Money for over 2 years, without any problem" >> On which machine ?? Old PC or ??
A+ For your comments
Edit >> Check this link
Did you try to do your new installation as indicated in the link (if problems) in Windows XP compatibility mode ??)
Best regards

Hello JMarion3,
I don't think there's a compatibility issue, since I've been using the version of Money on my current PC for 2 years. I haven't changed the version of Money or the PC, I had a sound problem with Money when switching to Windows 10, but aside from that, everything worked fine.
It's only since the reinstallation on the same PC with the same version of Money that I can't open my account file anymore.
Indeed, I don't have the CD anymore...
I did my installation in compatibility mode, indeed. I'll try tonight to do it without compatibility mode. I'll let you know as soon as it's done.
Thanks again, Nico. -
Hello Nico44470;
I don't quite understand your issue because even the message you had "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Money 2005\MNYCOREFiles\checksku.exe'" does not correspond to an executable of MsMoney 2005, as the file checksku.exe was on the old versions of Money (2002 -2004) >> This leads me to think that there has likely been a "mix-up" between Money versions that worked on Windows 7 or 8, but not on Windows 10
See you tonight

Hello JMarion3,
The only installation I did was the update for Monet that I downloaded from the site you mentioned, so it is indeed Money 2005!!
Maybe it's because I only installed it in compatibility mode!
I'll check this evening.
However, the version I had worked well on Windows 10 but there was no sound anymore...
If I had known, I would have kept it without sound...
:-)
Thanks again -
Good evening JMarion3,
I just uninstalled and then reinstalled Money without compatibility mode!!
I still had no results and especially the same symptoms !!!!
So I tried to do what you advised me in the link above regarding this,
When I reached the properties of Money, it was not in compatibility mode, looking closer, there was a box to run this program as an administrator that was not checked.
I checked this box!
And then OH Miracle, I relaunched my file !!!
So I found all my accounts!!!
I don't know how to thank you for your help!!
So thank you and now it's time to work, I have 1 month of accounts to catch up!!!!
Thank you again!! -
Hello Nico44470;
Thank you for the feedback and especially glad for you if everything is okay now
I must confess I was starting to worry because I had never encountered this problem before?
The main thing is that everything is back to normal
Catch you later for your comments, otherwise I’ll mark the subject as resolved
