Hello,
Yesterday I wanted to update my accounts because I’m way behind (since December... oops).
So I entered my December data and then Money crashed; I had to use ctrl + alt + delete to close Money.
Upon reopening, my Money file completely wiped out months of accounting that I had entered a long time ago... so I'm back to July 2015!
I tried restoring my PC, but I don’t have a date before yesterday! Great! The restoration must be disabled.
I attempted to search for Money files, but apparently there are no backups made (I thought there were... ).
Anyway, I’m desperate... Any ideas???

Hello marie-laure11;
I suggest you try to do as indicated below
1-Launch MsMoney
2-Click on Files (toolbar at the top)
3-Restore a backup copy
4-Restore a backup file by checking the small round box at the bottom >> Next
5-Ask Money to search for other backup files on my hard drive >> Next
6-Money is searching...
7-In the window that opens at the end of the search, you should have several restoration dates, and I suggest you choose initially the most recent one, and if it doesn't work, start again with an older one, etc... >> Then restore
By default, Money makes hidden backups on your hard drive
See the screenshot below

Hello Marie-Laure11,
it seems to me that the only solution was indeed to search the backup on the PC! Money suggests it every time... strange that you haven't done it at least once!
otherwise, I don't see any other solution! I'm sorry... and good luck if you have to retype everything: I empathize! -
Hello;
I suggest you do this to check if you can find those backups
1-Show hidden files in Windows
2-Follow the path below
C:\users\Users(Your Name)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Programs Files(x86)\Microsoft Money
See screenshot below
Money saves here >> Try to relaunch Money from one of the available files
In my image, there is only 1 file because I deliberately deleted the others
Catch you later for your comments and let me know if you find your backups, and if so, I will tell you how to do your backups not on your hard drive because it's dangerous in case of problems, which is your case today, but on an external medium (USB stick or CD/RW)

Well, there’s nothing at all in this folder ...
On the other hand, I tried with the software RecoverMyFiles and it’s not very conclusive either ... I only have 2 files that seem maybe interesting ... but I can’t find them on my PC.
The software gives me the path: C:/Lostfiles/Lostfiles-MS-Money_218733600.mny; there’s also another file of this type, but I can’t find them ...
(PS: I can’t take a screenshot because I’m not a member ..)
I think I’m going to have to re-enter everything ... -
Hello;
If you followed the path I indicated above and there's nothing, it's because Money does not save or it's malfunctioning. Where??
What is your exact version of Money (year, etc..)? >> How long have you been using Money? >> Do you have a USB key on hand right now or a CD/RW rewritable?
What is your operating system? >> Windows?

Well, I'm really blonde!!!
Actually, I wasn't looking at the right "caisse d'épargne" account, instead of "caisse d'épargne languedoc"....
So my file is indeed good!!!!
Thank you very much for your help!
From now on, I will make backups with every entry!!!
Thanks again. -
Hello marie-laure11;
Ah blondes??
Thank you for the feedback and glad if everything is okay now
As I mentioned earlier, I recommend making your backups not directly on your hard drive but on an external device because in case of problems with the hard drive, everything is lost!
Personally, I have been doing this on 2 CD/RWs (rewritable) for over 10 years and never had a problem
If you want me to show you the path to set in Money so that it automatically backs up every time you close it >> No problem, just come back here and I'll reply
If you prefer to stay as you do today, but it's a bit risky (proof) >> Resolved

Sure, if you can tell me...
Right now I'm doing this on an external hard drive.
Thank you very much!
P.S.: I'm at May 2016... just 2 more months! so happy!!! -
Hello;
If you are backing up on an external hard drive (which is pretty good), you need to configure Money as noted below:
1-Launch Money
2-File tab (at the top)
3-Backup copy (below)
4-Check the box for backup copy on diskette (external hard drive) >> OK
5-Options and in the window that opens, check as shown in the image below (F:\Backup MsMoney >> F:\ being the external hard drive for me but it may be different for you??)
6-Each time you close Money, it will ask you if you want to make a backup copy >> Yes or No?? depending on your choice?
That's all, and good luck
See you otherwise >> Resolved topic
