Hello, my Asus laptop charger has died. The original charger showed 19V and 3.2A. Can it be replaced by one that outputs 19V and 4.74A? Thanks in advance!

Hello This charger is 100% compatible, I confirm scarface, as long as the connector and polarity are the same  The story of 4.7 A current instead of 3.2A is like saying that all my devices at home are going to explode because now I have an EdF circuit breaker of 40A instead of 32 A before .............

Your original charger outputs 19V with 3.2A, so 60W.
The replacement you mentioned outputs 19V with 4.74A, so 90W.

You cannot replace the original one with the one you mentioned without risking it burning out as well as the machine.

You need a charger that is 19V with 3.2A and 60W.

Hello everyone,

I do not agree with TikTak92's response. It may seem dangerous to use a transformer supplying 90W on a PC (or other device) that requires only 60W, but what matters is the voltage (within a few volts since there is a safety margin ensured by a fuse).

The PC will "use" the amperage it needs (namely 3.2 A). The opposite would be dangerous, that is to say an undersized power supply in terms of amperage.

Since two people in this thread state that it is possible, I think the requester will be in total doubt and fear destroying their PC.

In my opinion, it would be best to wait for other opinions or to "consult" an electrician or local repair person.

Of course, the plug dimensions must correspond and the polarities (positive and negative on the same concentric contacts) must be respected.

I should specify that I have already done this, particularly using a 19V Sony power supply on an ACER.

I have another question, I found an Asus charger at home and if it could save me from buying another one that would be nice... 15-20V max and 5A max, it says that the output current adjusts automatically, according to your answers and if I understood correctly it should be compatible as well? (If the connector & polarity are identical of course)
