Charger with lower amperage, risks?

Hello,
the charger for my laptop is no longer working and I ordered another one.
The specifications of the old one are 19.5V and 6.15A.
The new one has 19.5V but only 4.6A.
Are there any risks for the charger or for the laptop if I use the new one with a lower amperage?
Thank you

Hello!

There is indeed a risk in that:
- the original charger provides 6.15A
- we can assume that the laptop can demand 6.15A
- the new charger is unable to meet the demand, as it only delivers 4.6A.

What could this cause? Damage to the charger. It shouldn't affect the laptop itself, but if you're waiting for the charger to fail more or less quietly (as it could very well overheat or worse), I highly recommend buying another one. A compatible one, this time ^^

A charger providing a higher amperage than what the laptop itself could demand poses, on the other hand, no problem. It will just be oversized, and this difference in amperage should be excluded from potential causes if another issue were to arise.

Have a nice day
