Good evening,
I bought a 4 GB RAM stick today from a computer retailer (DR3 SODIM memory).
I opened the laptop, installed the memory correctly (angle, small "clip") but my PC does not want to recognize it.
To be honest, I've been struggling for several hours going from forum to forum and I'm not getting anywhere; I must admit my computer knowledge is quite limited.
I read that I needed to enable "Memory Remap" in the BIOS, but after struggling to get in there, that option is not available...
I'm a bit stuck, thank you in advance to anyone who can give me a hand.
Here's the description of my machine:
Operating system
Windows 8.1 64-bit
Processor
Intel Core i3/i5/i7 4xxx @ 1.90GHz 41 °C
Haswell ULT Technology 22nm
RAM
4.00 GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 798 MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. X751LD (SOCKET 0) 41 °C
Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1600x900@60Hz)
Intel HD Graphics Family (ASUStek Computer Inc)
2047 MB NVIDIA GeForce 820M (ASUStek Computer Inc) 38 °C
Storage

Hello,
can you provide the complete specifications of the new RAM stick, please? The frequency is missing
first, we need to make sure that this laptop supports 8 GB of RAM; is it indicated in the manual? What is the complete model reference of this laptop?
some X751LD laptops do indeed support 8 GB of DDR3, but a specific low voltage type (1.35V instead of 1.5V), the DDR3L:

Hello Marc,
The PC is indeed an ASUS X751L, I couldn't find any information in the manual regarding the addition of a RAM stick. Since there is a free slot, I assume it's intended.
The reference for the RAM stick is KVR16S11S8/4.
I hope I have answered your questions correctly,
Thank you ;)-
The reference for the memory stick is KVR16S11S8/4
it's a DDR3 1600MHz CAS 11 stick, it's generally good unless your laptop requires DDR3L
The PC is indeed an ASUS X751L
that's not enough to fully identify your laptop
there are numbers and letters behind, like the one I gave you as an example: ASUS X751LD-TY062H
and this model requires DDR3L...
or if not, where did you buy it? on a retail site? which one? -

So here is what I found for the ASUS X751LN-TY099H:

It indeed supports 8GB of DDR3 1600 MHz, but in DDR3L:
Memory type: DDR3L (1.35V) -
Hello everyone! I ordered a DDR3 from LDCL to avoid advertising, a 4 GB stick received in a timely manner, I installed it and my PC recognized it automatically ;)
Thanks for the diagnosis, I got refunded for my previous purchase.
At first glance, I don't see a dramatic gain, I think my next investment will be in an SSD.
Thanks Marc and best wishes,
Best regards,
Gero-
my pc recognized it automatically
it was indeed DDR3L that was needed, operating at 1.35V
At first glance, I don’t see any dramatic gain
well I could have told you that, the gains are always quite small when increasing the RAM (except in the case of handling large files) but I didn't know why you wanted to increase the RAM, you just asked why it wasn’t working...
