Pinnacle Studio preview window black screen

Hello everyone
first (a bit of flattery...) thank you for this forum that has already helped me solve quite a few problems...

but this one I couldn't find a solution for, not on any other site either

I made a video capture from my digital camcorder, using Pinnacle Studio 8, which went smoothly, with a preview during the capture.
it's at the editing stage that my problem arises... the preview window stays black, I only have the audio playing. Similarly, when I drag a scene into the timeline, I can't get a preview; I only see the thumbnail of the first image of the scene, but a black screen in the preview.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but nothing works. I don't understand, especially since I’ve already done an edit with Studio 8 and my current setup, without any issues.

If you can help me, that would be super cool, I have a film to make in 5 days...

    I solved the problem by installing DirectX under Windows 7 with Pinnacle 17. It supports 2D and 3D capture.

      Indeed, Pinnacle Studio 17 on Windows 8.1, the same phenomenon resolved after installing DirectX 11.

      Similarly, installing DirectX resolved the issue; without it, Pinnacle was unusable (unable to preview and edit the video file).

    Hello, I had the same problem...

    And I resolved it like this:

    1- close Pinnacle Studio 14
    2 - go to display settings:

    * under Win XP: Start => Settings => Control Panel => Display => Settings => Advanced => Troubleshooting

    I moved the "Hardware Acceleration" slider 2 notches to the left,

    Apply, OK

    3- restart Pinnacle Studio 14

    and then the videos appear...

      Indeed, your maneuver works on the weekend.. thank you very much!! For my part, with Windows 7, I went to troubleshooting and selected true color instead of the initial 32 bits.

    Hello, I've installed Pinnacle 20 on my computer (Windows 10) and I'm having the problem that you all mention: when importing a video, I have sound but no image. My DirectX 12 is up to date. I don't understand where the problem comes from and I can't resolve it.

      Hi, I have exactly the same problem as you with Pinnacle 20 Ultimate, Windows 10, Nvidia GeForce 940 MX, and there's sound but no image.

      Hi internet, the problem evidently comes from the .AVI files, so the solution is to convert the .AVI video to .MPEG, which can be done using free software like:
      - "Freemake Video Converter," for example.

    I forgot to tell you that I have sound, only the preview screen remains black, the capture sound plays without any problem.

    actually, I tried again by installing version 9 of the log and it worked
    maybe it automatically updated the filters

    Hello,
    I just installed Pinnacle 10 on my computer.
    I can load my videos from my camcorder, but when I try to view the previews, the image is all green and choppy.
    (PS the sound works)
    My video card is NVIDIA GEFORCE2 MX/MX 400.
    Can you help me so I can do my edits?

    Hello. Have you done the updates because it's version 10.7 otherwise you need to reinstall it. Sometimes it takes several reinstalls for it to work properly. For my part, I had to reinstall it 4 times before it worked well. See you later.

    Hello,

    I installed Pinnacle Studio 11 and I have the same problem as yesterday, which is that when I try to edit my films I don't have a preview image, the screen stays black; however, the sound plays correctly.

    I have version number 11 and when I check for updates it says that there are none available at the moment. What can I do??

    the editing doesn't start when I want to preview it
    I have question marks showing up and the green editing areas never turn orange

      Same problem with Studio 14 HD, it's impossible to view the videos in the box at the top right of the screen.
      The box remains black.
      I have installed and uninstalled the product and nothing works.
      If anyone knows the solution, thank you in advance, as Pinnacle's technical support can't help!

      For those who still can’t manage, make sure that your videos/images/sound are properly imported onto your computer; this happened to me, and it was because of that.

      Hello everyone, I'm bringing this topic back up because I still haven't resolved my problem despite the very good answers above. My issue is that when I add a video to the library, the sound plays but there's a black screen with a yellow lock on it, making it impossible to work on the video.. I have Pinnacle Studio 16. Thank you in advance for your help!

    Another solution on Win 7:

    In Pinnacle;
    Menu Configuration > Video and Audio Preferences > uncheck: "Enable hardware acceleration"

    Hey Geeks!

    After 2 years, the issue is still present in the newer versions of Pinnacle... I can confirm that the problem is indeed related to DirectX. For those who, like me, can be a bit clueless (and yes, I can be sometimes ^^), here’s a video about the problem:

    Unresolved problem on my end Direct X and yet up to date.... my video previews and my editing are black, there is sound but no image, if I had known I would have never bought the software that keeps causing problems.....
    Pinnacle is really to be avoided!

      Hello, to solve the problem you need to install DirectX, look for it on any search engine. It can be installed even with Windows 10.
