HP Photosmart C4380

Hello, I have a problem with my HP C4380 printer which displays the following message: "Damaged or Missing Cartridge" after I reset it. I managed to print another document, but then the same message reappears, and so on. In total, I have already done 2 resets of the printer. It is 5 years old, my printer dating back to 2008. After calling HP, the operator informed me that my printer is obsolete, but I couldn't get in touch with an authorized technician because she said I had to follow the procedure. Note that I have already had paper jams multiple times in the printer, and I had to forcibly remove it because I had no other solution after the paper jam. What should I do? Should I buy another black ink cartridge since there is little ink left, but the color one is almost full, or should I buy another printer that is indeed dead? Thank you for your relevant responses.

Configuration: Windows 7 / Internet Explorer 9.0

Hello
I have fixed this issue, but I'm really fed up with HP

- press the on/off button and simultaneously the button with the red cross
- on the screen, you are prompted to enter a touch code
- press in order, it's important: the blue button, then the green button, then the gray button, and you are in the printer's internal menu
- press the gray button until you reach the Information menu, confirm with the green button
- press the gray button until you reach checksum, confirm with the green button
- a number will be displayed (who cares)
- press the red cross three times to clear the number and then exit the menu
- the printer will restart and align its printheads
there you go, it's working again!

After following the entire procedure described above up to printing the alignment (HP Photosmart C4380), I find myself again with the same message: "Damaged or missing cartridge." Since the alignment page printed correctly, the cartridges are therefore not defective!!!
This recurring situation among many internet users makes me think it is a case of planned obsolescence!
Given all the inconveniences caused by HP equipment, the only power left for the internet user is to boycott this company as well as to publish all the inconveniences resulting from their equipment.

I encountered the same problem with an HP Photosmart c4380 and carried out the various manipulations. The checksum reset does indeed ensure that the cartridges are capable of printing. Ironically, the original HP XL cartridge was the cause of the problem (test page corrupted). I therefore replaced my XL cartridge with a compatible cartridge from the distributor CASINO and it works. Conclusion: HP, which does everything to exclude compatible products, does not offer better quality products. I will no longer buy HP cartridges, and my next printer will not be an HP!

Hi,

Sometimes the problem lies with XL cartridges.
Are they standard or XL capacity?

Hi Regis 59, no, these are genuine HP standard format cartridges!

Ok.

Either you change your printer, knowing that it will cost about 70 euros. It all depends on whether you want to do it or not.

Otherwise, 2 solutions:
- Change the cartridges, which sometimes is enough to get it working again (problem with the cartridge chip (there’s a print quota...)).
I’ve resolved this kind of problem by simply replacing the cartridge.
However, if it doesn’t work, you lose the cartridges :-S

- Or you try:
- To remove the cartridges and put them back.
- To reset the printer like this:
You need to perform this button combination to access the hidden menu of your printer:

1*press both the On/Off and Cancel red cross buttons and you’ll get a message “enter special key combo”

2*release both buttons and press the blue button once, the green button once, and the gray button once

3*Automatically you will have the Support Menu, scroll down to Reset Menu and confirm

4*you will see on the screen “language/country reset” scroll down to Semi full Reset and press Ok

5*Follow the instructions displayed on your printer's screen.

A+

Thank you very much, Regis 59, for your help! I think I will try your first method and if that doesn't work, I'll buy a new black cartridge for 18 € to see if the problem persists. Is it possible to run the printer with just a color cartridge? I'm sure the black cartridge is empty or almost empty, but there's still half of the color cartridge left.

A friend who knows about computers advised me to buy a new black cartridge and then align them, but after your Semi-Full Reset, it still made a strange noise! I honestly think the printer is dead, but I'm taking the risk of buying a black cartridge to see if it still works! Do you happen to know a way to print an alignment page or could you send me the document in PDF?

Just need to do a test page and it will do the alignment.
I think changing the cartridge might work.
If it prints but encrypted, let me know, I thought I read something about that, I'll look it up.
