WD hard drive beeping after a fall

Hello,

I recently purchased a WD My Passport external hard drive with a capacity of 1TB, powered by a USB cable.

I dropped it on the floor (a fall of about 50cm) and since then, when I plug it in, the LED lights up and blinks, and the drive spins, but the computer no longer detects it. At times, it also makes repetitive noises like 'beep beep beep.... beep'. I tried connecting it to other computers, but the same problem persists.

Is there any way to get it working again, or should I throw it away?

Thank you in advance for your responses :)

Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 18.0.1025.142

    Good evening,

I have the same problem as you, and I decided to take it apart to see if anything can be done. I'll keep you updated.

So? Have you solved your problem? Do I still deserve the -1?

      Hi,

After disassembly, I recovered my information. On the left side, a small white plastic part was broken; it acts as a stop so that the heads don't go too far on the disk. By the way, I found this fault because I saw that the latter was scratched a little beyond the maximum sector. This is related to the fact that I tried to make it spin absolutely. If the same is true for you, recover this part from another disk, or glue it back if you find the piece. I'm here for you, just in case. Bye.
