Hello,
Last Christmas, I gave my mother an external hard drive (Maxtor STSHX-M101TCBM 1 To USB 3.0) to store all her photos.
A year later, the hard drive stopped working.
When I plug it in, it emits a light and short BEEP every 2 seconds, not really high-pitched. The PC does not detect it; only the "safely remove hardware..." icon appears in the bottom right corner.
In "Disk Management" from the start menu, the drive does not appear. I can only see it in "Device Manager / Disk Drives / Seagate M3 Portable SCSI Disk Device".
I tried uninstalling it from Device Manager (the beeping eventually stops), then unplugging/replugging it for reinstallation. It starts beeping again and goes back to square one.
I bought an external hard drive enclosure (Inateck FE2004 USB 3.0 HDD/SSD) thinking it was the connection card of the hard drive that was faulty. The problem is identical with the other interface.
Before taking it to a computer repair shop and paying a hefty sum (especially since the hard drive only cost me €56), I would like to know if you have any other suggestions.
Thank you very much in advance for your responses.
Paul.
