Hello,
I'm contacting you because my external hard drive was working perfectly a few days ago, but today when I plugged it in, I can't access it, and it emits a beep/buzz every 2 seconds.
There is no clicking, just a beep.
It appears in the device manager, and the "safely remove hardware..." icon is there with the name of the external hard drive.
The results I found say that it's a reading problem without providing a solution, or that it's not dead but needs to be disassembled for repair. However, I don't feel comfortable trying to disassemble it myself and risk losing all the data permanently.
I have nearly 2TB of data on it. I plan to look into getting it repaired, but I wanted to know if there are any other solutions before I have to spend a significant amount on repairs.
Thank you in advance for your responses.
PS: it's a Seagate Backup Plus external hard drive.

Hello
check if it appears in "disk management"
take a screenshot
otherwise test the drive with "crystal disk info"
it's a software that allows the user to know the status of their hard drive.
download it here
This software is very well designed, indeed it has a color system to inform you about the condition of your HDD/SSD:
- Blue, very good condition
- Green, very good condition
- Yellow, one or more defects are reported, this may cause instability in Windows, crashes...etc.
Back up your data as soon as possible, then replace the HDD/SSD
- Red, the HDD/SSD has reached its critical threshold, it is about to fail (physically or mechanically)
Turn off your PC and have a data recovery performed by a computer specialist.
- Gray, the HDD/SSD is detected but not recognized by your computer.
If it shows up on an HDD/SSD that has several years of operation, this usually indicates a fatal failure.

Thank you for this response, however, it does not appear in "disk management" but only in the "device manager" (see images below)
I didn't know about the CrystalDiskInfo software but it is indeed really good. However, my external hard drive is not detected by it either.
