Hello,
I accidentally renamed all the files (more than a hundred) in a directory to the same name. I don't know how to undo this.
Is there a solution? Please help me

<config>Windows 7 / Internet Explorer 9.0</config>

    Hello,

If you haven't closed your directory or taken any other actions since:
Right-click in the directory (not on a file, directly in the directory window)
    Cancel renaming

Unfortunately, I validated it. In fact, these are songs that I downloaded from YouTube (140) and while wanting to rename one, I didn't realize that everything was selected. Everything has become SOWETO SOLEIL, even Bob, Culture, etc. Everything is Soweto Soleil, that's my problem.

Hello, we are in 2017 and your response was still very relevant because it solved my problem. A huge thank you! Micouette

    Hello,

Which software did you use to rename them?

all the files (more than a hundred) in a directory with the same name

That's not possible because each file in a directory must have a unique name?

I explain myself. I downloaded songs and videos from YouTube. Each had a specific name like Bob, Culture, Gregory, etc...
Wanting to rename one video after selecting it, I didn't realize I had selected all the files (videos and songs). Everything then became SOWETO SOLEIL1; SOWETO SOLEIL2; SOWETO SOLEIL3; even Bob Marley’s songs. That's my problem.

"everything has become SOWETO SOLEIL1; SOWETO SOLEIL2; SOWETO SOLEIL3"

So, they don't have the same name.

Hello, you can use software to rename in bulk.
But you won't find your original names back.
It will be something like photo001, photo002, photo003, etc...

    Hello.

You got caught in May 2010, and you’re doing it again ( https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-17595038-j-ai-renomme-tout-les-fichiers-d-un-dossier ).

Take back the subject mentioned above.
Solutions that work have been proposed.

And I will repeat myself for at least the 100th time.
    Use two partitions.
One for the system and programs, the other for data.
If you store your personal photos and videos on your PC,
and especially if this is also your work tool,

    ===============================================
Make images of your "SYSTEM & PROGRAMS" partition.
Make backups of your "DATA" partition.
It's certain, sooner or later, you'll need them.

    ===============================================

On my PC, about 10 minutes to restore "system" and "programs" (50 GB).
Just the time for a coffee break.

A few minutes to restore a video, or a bunch of accidentally deleted photos.

    No stress.

But you don’t have to believe me.

      Hello.

      Thank you.

But I increasingly feel that once they have been helped,
they no longer care about the advice that was "given" to them.

      It's disappointing.
