Hello, I need help, accidentally (and don't ask me how, I can't tell you!!) I renamed all the files in a folder with the same name!!
So, it's impossible to know what's what!! Is there any way to recover all that?
I already tried Edit/Undo rename, it works but only about 10 times and now I can't do it anymore!
I'm also thinking about system restore, but that often does me more harm than good, and I don't really want to!!
Anyway, if you have THE solution, I thank you!!!!

See you soon

Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 3.0.14

Hello,
Recuva retrieves deleted files. Now I'm having a doubt...

@pepe35530: it's very easy to rename all these files at once; you just have to accidentally select them all before modifying: https://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/26301-renommer-ses-photos-ou-videos-a-la-volee

@sylmar: if your files weren't in the My Documents folder, you can try a System Restore.

Ahhhhhhhh well there you go, that's exactly what happened to me!!!
And unfortunately, it's a subfolder of My Documents!!! Even a recovery won't be able to do anything???
These are music files, so, in My Music, and there are some whose titles I don't remember, and recognizing them is a bit of a hassle! That's why I can't just open and rename them!!

Don't you have the tracks in Windows Media Player?
What I do, even with music copied by friends, is a right-click in WMP, then Search for album info. Sometimes WMP recognizes the files.

Hello,

It seems to me that you cannot have the same file names in the same directory.

Talk to you later

Hello
control panel<administrative tools<view<tools<folder options and in the list, uncheck show hidden files and folders<apply<enter and see what it gives

Well, proof that it does!! I don’t know how, but I wanted to open a file, my computer lagged, I clicked several times (yes, I’m not very patient!!), and then, all of a sudden, all the files in my folder took the name of that file with just a number after the name like: filename(21)
Just the number in parentheses changes, from 1 up to the number of files, 42 in my case!

I managed to recover 10 of them but that's it :-((

Download Malwarebytes from 01.net etc... register, run and install it, update it, then check full scan, check all the boxes, click on search
let it work until the end
if infections, quarantine them then go to the quarantine tab of Malwarebytes and delete everything.

I already have Malwarebytes, it's not a virus, it's a mistake, it happened to me a long time ago, but the folder didn't have as many files, and by using edit/undo, I was able to recover everything!

Good evening,

Your files don't have the same name since the system added a number.
I don't see what prevents you from opening or renaming them.

See you later

Yes, I agree, it's possible like that, but there are certain files that I don't know, even when opening them, what they really correspond to...
Is there really only this solution??

Otherwise, I will have to resort to a system restore.

Okay thanks, I'll check that with Recuva, and I'll keep you posted...

Well, Recuva analysis done, and nothing found
I think it's a bit normal because they weren't deleted, just renamed...
