PC VGA connection - HDMI screen Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,

I am looking to connect my PC via the VGA output of the video card to a Philips LCD screen. It has a scart and HDMI input. The user manual states the need to purchase a DVI - HDMI cable, which seems absurd to me, as the output from the video card is VGA. Would using a VGA-DVI adapter solve the problem? I'm worried about compatibility issues or signal quality loss (analog to digital conversion).

I am calling on everyone's experience and expertise.

Well guys, here’s the solution if you don’t want to be bothered!!

Install a VGA to HDMI converter
It will cost you about ten euros, not including the connection cables.
Image and sound on the TV screen, isn’t that nice...

What do you mean, you don't have a DVI port on your graphics card?
If you do have one, you just need to connect your card to your HD screen with a
DVI <--> HDMI cable ...
But if you don't, change your card ;-)
Well, however, this kind of cable isn't really cheap :-(

It's been a while, I think you must have found a solution. I'm in the same situation as you. I only have a VGA output and I also have a Philips LCD screen. The VGA/DVI converter plus the DVI/HDMI cable cost me nearly €80 for absolutely NOTHING, so forget that!
The solution I adopted, but I don't know if you have the same outputs, is to buy a VGA BNC cable with 5 small BNC/RCA adapters ==> This gives us a VGA RGB HV cable (one side VGA and the other side 5 RCA, if I remember correctly Green Blue Red Black and Gray) that allows me to get image quality comparable to HDMI!

Note that in this setup, the sound doesn't go through (easily resolved by connecting the home cinema directly to the PC)

Hi, I'm having the same problem as everyone else: I bought a Philips LCD and it has no VGA, DVI, or HDMI port on the back of my PC... After reading 50,000 forums and everything else, still no solution... So several choices: return my screen and choose another one (but I might lose some image quality), change my graphics card to have a DVI or HDMI output (a bit pricey after all...) or find a cable that connects VGA to YUV or HDMI. I just bought a TV receiver with, among other things, a VGA input. I bought a VGA-VGA cable and it works, after the setup required on the TV (choosing between peritel1, peritel2, etc. and VGA, then a fn/F7 on the PC keyboard. Superb image.  Basic.

Hello everyone, apparently there are no solutions because VGA is analog and plasma or LCD are digital (so no possible cable for digitization).  There is an external box that will convert the signals (from analog to digital) to get the image on the LCD screen. It connects to the VGA and you connect the box to the screen (but the box is very expensive).

Hello, I see that there is a lot of confusion on this topic. First of all, it is impossible to convert an analog signal (TV-out, RGB, YUV, VGA, SCART) to a digital signal (DVI-D, HDMI) without the help of an expensive converter, if not nonexistent (HDMI is protected by an encoded electronic chip and is a registered trademark that allows for high definition display only when both devices, computer and TV, are equipped with HDMI or DVI outputs with HDCP; HDCP being the encoded chip).
The only solution to display the computer on a TV is to use the interface supported on BOTH devices. This means that both devices must be connected in analog-analog OR digital-digital.
Within both groups, it is enough to use a cable and/or adapter to function (except in the case of VGA to SCART, which is unfortunate, right?), at least for the image! Indeed, only SCART and HDMI carry audio in the same cable.
As for the solution with a TV receiver and VGA cable, I don't see the point since the image quality is limited by the TV receiver while VGA perfectly supports 1080p by 1920p (except for HD movies with protection), provided your screen allows it too!!!!
But let's return to the initial problem raised a long time ago by seb.com.fr: hidden in the responses, the most rational solution to his problem was already there, which is to acquire a new HDMI-compatible graphics card, like the ATI Radeon 2400 Pro (under 50 euros on LDLC.com), which will allow his screen to work with his PC.
It may be possible (but I haven’t found “Madrics VGA Box”) that there is a VGA to SCART interface (since the reverse exists, I found that!), but its cost would certainly be higher than that of a graphics card sold in millions of copies or so!
Finally, I'm sure I've said some unclear things for some, so feel free to ask questions about the obscure parts!

VGA->DVI->HDMI with simple adapters cannot work:

DVI contains 2 streams: a digital AND an analog one. The VGA->DVI directs the analog signal from VGA to the DVI's analog "pins". The DVI->HDMI converter connects the DVI's digital "pins" to the HDMI, so nothing is connected...

If the computer still detects the TV, it means that there is a digital control signal on the VGA port to "communicate" between the host (PC...) and the device (screen, TV...). This standard digital channel must be correctly routed from VGA to HDMI.

The only solution for VGA to HDMI is to use an analog-to-digital converter, but then it requires a "complicated" system which must be expensive; it’s no longer a simple adapter that connects wires, but a microprocessor-based system...

Here is the procedure for connecting a PC to an LCD screen

- Follow it and everything will work perfectly; in any case, this is the simplest and least expensive solution I found without using an HDMI/DVI cable, which costs a fortune, especially when the TV is more than 5 meters away from the PC.

1) The equipment

(a) IN/OUT adapter

2) Connection

- Connect (a) to the SCART of your TV
- Connect (c) to the sound card output of your PC
- Plug (d) into (a) audio connection (red and white) and then the end into (c)
- Plug (b) into the video card of your PC and then the end into (a)

**** The connection will be made with the PC turned off ****

There you go, the connection is complete, you just need to configure your video card.

Note: Depending on your video cards, select the option "TV as primary monitor"
the PC becomes secondary.

Hello, I need a bit of help! My problem is to connect my PC to a Philips HD Ready LCD TV. I have an Acer 1650Z laptop with XP Home Edition SP2, ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 512MB HYPER MEMORY graphics card. The issue is that I only have a VGA output that apparently does not send any signal to the LCD TV. The connections I have tried are: VGA adapter with S-Video and yellow RCA does not work : VGA adapter with YUV does not work : VGA to female DVI adapter with male DVI to HDMI cable (to my great disappointment, this does not work either, and it’s starting to cost me a lot!!!!! Is the VGA output digital or analog?? Yet I have already connected a PC monitor and it worked very well.

I followed the instructions in the TV manual and set it to PC mode, and the TV recognizes that it is connected to a PC, but the screen goes black every time. Once again, VGA to HDMI is only possible with an analog to digital converter, which is a "complicated" and expensive system (see the links previously posted by others).
This has nothing to do with the VGA->DVI adapter, which cannot work (see my previous post, there is no conversion of analog signals to digital in a 5-25€ adapter, unlike the converter).

If an analog to digital converter is expensive (at least 100€), it is mostly an obsolete device today, and for the same price or even half as cheap, you can find a DVI video card, which is much better suited! (you can find them for about 50€, right?) And why not buy an HDMI video card, but there it's true that it's more expensive. It all depends on the budget. But a simple chain of VGA->DVI then DVI-HDMI adapters cannot work, it's not possible.
In short, for VGA->HDMI, the only reasonable solution is to buy a DVI video card. The other solution, which I consider bad, is to buy the obsolete ana->digital converter for over 100€.

After VGA (PC) to VGA (screen), it should work, maybe a configuration problem? Personally, I have no opinion, except that it "should" work...
VGA to SCART, or other combinations of analog inputs, a configuration should be possible, but again, I don't know.

It is possible that your DVI does not transfer the image from HDMI for movies because HDMI requires the HDCP chip in the player. Is your computer equipped with it?

The "ATI Radeon 9600 PRO 256Mo DDR + TV Out" card seems to me to have a DVI output.

I connected my PC with an ATI X1600 Pro 256 Mo DVI-I graphics card to a Toshiba 42' LCD TV via HDMI.

The DVI sends video in digital format. The solution: a DVI MALE - HDMI FEMALE adapter (from €2.5). Then a male-to-male HDMI cable of the desired length (for me, 10 meters: from €25).

For sound, a 3.5 mm male jack to connect the PC to the LCD TV (for me, approximately 10 meters for €10).

Total cost for me for 10 meters is around €50.

Now, why this solution? Recent graphics cards have an HDMI output that transmits both sound (7.1) and video in digital format. If one day we need to change the graphics card for HD, there will be no need for the DVI-HDMI adapter (€2.5) and the jack cable. However, we can still use the HDMI cable directly (from the graphics card to the TV).

Some suggest using a DVI - HDMI cable: a bad choice, as it will become obsolete with a graphics configuration change.

A new HD card can be found starting at €35 currently...

Using VGA (analog) when we have DVI (digital) is a poor choice.

Hello,

Connecting the LCD screen to the computer is simple, the steps are:

1: leave the computer connected to its original monitor
2: go to the control panel
3: go to display
4: settings
5: change the resolution to 1024 and save
6: close the computer.
7: connect the computer to the TV, either with VGA or HDMI (VGA: you should connect a regular audio cable and link it to the home theater or the TV)
8: restart the computer and restart the TV

wait for the computer to turn on; if nothing happens, press F5,

It should work.

Like everyone here, I'm fed up with dealing with this crappy connection!
I have a JVC LCD (with HDMI and SCART inputs) and an HP laptop (with VGA and S-Video outputs)
First, I tried the cheapest way! or free since everyone has this at home!
The S-Video to SCART connection gives an image but no color!
After doing some research, I was told to connect pins 15 and 20 of the SCART, but the result is really not great!!
Then I switched to VGA
First, I bought an HDMI-DVI cable (4 euros online), then I bought another DVI-VGA cable (that one cost me 20 euros!)
And as you all know, no results!!!
So I would like to know if anyone has tried a VGA-RCA connection?? It would help me to know the result so that I don't have to waste more money unnecessarily!

Hello everyone, I know this post is already very old but I need your help so I’m taking my chance: I am currently in the United States, where I’m renting an apartment. I have a Toshiba TZ55V61 TV and my EeeePC.
