Hello,
I just changed my black toner on a CLX-3185. But, after turning the printer back on, it still indicates that the toner is empty and needs to be replaced. I have turned the printer off and on multiple times, unplugged and replugged it, and checked that the toner is properly positioned. Nothing works. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?
Thank you in advance for your help!
Configuration: Mac OS X / Firefox 3.6.10

Hello,
On SAMSUNG laser printers, there is a specific error message for the "waste toner container."
To find out what it's about: https://www.amazon.fr/Samsung-CLX-3185-W409-CLT-W-409/dp/B007ACYXFY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1383403823&sr=8-5&keywords=samsung+clx+3185
This container collects the toner that is used but does not stick to the page. And this container is considered by SAMSUNG as a consumable like any other.
When it is full, there is an "error" message. Unfortunately, this message looks similar to the one for replacing toner cartridges.
That’s why, VERY OFTEN, users get stuck, after changing the toner cartridges, instead of changing this container.
Indeed, the message being ambiguous, users remain under the impression that it pertains to the toner cartridges. WHEN IN REALITY, the message refers to the waste toner container (Toner Waste BOX).
Your issue may come from there.
Best regards to all, even to the little excited vaginas of all sexes regarding planned obsolescence/obsolescence, and to the little shopkeepers who want to make us pay €50 for useless firmware....

Planned obsolescence is the smoke screen that prevents us from seeking solutions. -
I had the same problem with a CLX-3185, you need to modify the printer's firmware so that it no longer counts the pages of the original toners that don't have a chip and put adhesive on the chips of the new toners. The printer thinks they are still the original toners for life without any page limit. You will therefore be able to use the toners until they are completely exhausted.
Firmware available on eBay for €15.-

I strongly recommend the site reset br. www.resetbr.com and choose your printer model (Samsung only, unfortunately).
For 50 dollars, they will send you a new firmware that will completely reset the printer so it stops saying it's empty when there's still toner...
The help file is in Portuguese, but if the Google translation seems insufficient, here is one made by me:
1. Make sure the printer driver is installed on your computer; if not, download and install it.
2. Once it's installed or verified, unplug the printer.
3. Open the front cover and remove the 4 toner cartridges from the printer.
4. Cover the electronic chip on each toner cartridge with tape (it is located on the left of each cartridge and is divided into 4 parts).
5. Connect the printer to the PC with the USB cable, then turn on the printer WITHOUT the cartridges installed but with the front cover closed.
6. Extract the RAR archive (the 7zip software is free and will allow you to do this if you don't have a way to extract it) received and then execute the file "DOWNLOAD_1".
7. While this file is running, a small DOS window will open, and the following message will appear on the printer's LCD screen (the green light flashing during this time): "writing address".
8. DANGER: Do not turn off the printer or the PC during this process, as you risk making your printer unusable.
9. Once the process of writing the new firmware is complete, the DOS window will close by itself, and the printer will restart on its own.
10. Then replace the ink cartridges, but never remove the tape. If the "door open" message appears, close the cover more firmly; it's possible that the tape is slightly hindering its closure.
Your printer is now capable of printing until there is truly no toner left in the cartridges.
You will then have the choice to refill them yourself or buy new ones.
In the latter case, remember to put tape on the chip of your cartridge, otherwise, you will have to repeat the entire process!!
