Hello everyone,
Here's my problem that occurs every time I turn on my PC: when XP starts (black screen with just the Windows XP logo and the little blue loading bar beneath), there comes a point where it freezes, the bar stops, the fan slows down, and the screen remains frozen, and nothing happens anymore.
I have to turn it off manually.
When I turn it back on, it prompts me to choose how to start (usually, last good configuration). Sometimes on the second boot, it will load normally or freeze a dozen times (regardless of the choice I made).
I don't understand the problem and I don't know what to do to fix it.
I've already checked the disk; it finds no errors, I haven't touched any system files, and I don't have any viruses.
Thank you in advance.

I had the same problem as Fred, "every time I turn on my PC: when XP starts (black screen with just the Windows XP logo and the little blue loading bar beneath), there comes a moment when it freezes, the bar stops, the fan slows down and the screen stays frozen and nothing happens anymore";
I was able to start Windows in safe mode (turn on the PC and press F8 and then select start in safe mode)
then perform the following sequence: Start/Run/chkdsk (analyzes the partitions of the hard drive and allows the repair of lost boot files).
Normally it works...
